The difference between otitis media and nasopharyngeal carcinoma

The difference between otitis media and nasopharyngeal carcinoma

There are many similarities in the early stages of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and otitis media. So, how can we clearly distinguish these two diseases? Today I will introduce to you the difference between otitis media and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

1. First of all, patients with nasopharyngeal cancer are prone to nasal congestion, but patients with otitis media will not experience it. This is because nasopharyngeal cancer tumors grow in our nasal cavity, which will compress our nasal cavity and cause nasal congestion. As the disease worsens, it develops from unilateral nasal congestion to bilateral nasal congestion.

2. Secondly, patients with otitis media will experience ear pain, but patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma rarely experience ear pain. After otitis media occurs, our ears will swell due to inflammation, which will increase the pressure in our inner ear and cause persistent pain.

3. Finally, compared with patients with otitis media, NPC patients will have more obvious headaches, and generally they are continuous headaches in the temporal and top of the head. A small number of patients with otitis media will have headaches, which are mostly intermittent and unilateral.

Precautions

Patients with otitis media and nasopharyngeal cancer will experience symptoms of tinnitus and hearing loss. These two symptoms are difficult to distinguish between themselves, so treatment can be easily delayed. It is necessary to seek medical attention in time to clarify the condition. In addition, patients with nasopharyngeal cancer may also experience nose bleeding.

Therefore, no matter what disease you have, you should not delay treatment when you feel unwell in the early stage. This will not only make you feel uncomfortable, but also make the condition worse. You must receive treatment from a doctor.
