Factors affecting the treatment effect of renal cancer

Kidney cancer is one of the common malignant tumors of the urinary system, and its incidence rate is second only to bladder cancer. Clinically, common types include kidney cancer occurring in the renal parenchyma, nephroblastoma, and transitional cell papilloma occurring in the renal pelvis and calyces. Early kidney cancer can be cured by radical nephrectomy. Patients with advanced kidney cancer or high-risk patients who cannot undergo surgery are very likely to metastasize, with poor prognosis. The average survival period of patients with lymph node metastasis or lung, liver, or brain metastasis is about one year. After active treatment, the prognosis of kidney cancer patients is relatively good, with a five-year survival rate of about 60% to 70%, and a ten-year survival rate of more than 50%.

The prognosis of renal cancer patients varies greatly, and the treatment effect is mainly related to the pathological stage of the cancer, histological grade, the patient's general condition, the presence or absence of necrosis in the cancer, abnormalities and changes in some biochemical indicators, etc. In addition, some scholars believe that the treatment effect is related to the histological type. The prognosis of papillary renal cell carcinoma and chromophobe cell carcinoma is better than that of clear cell carcinoma; the prognosis of papillary renal cell carcinoma type I is better than that of type II; and the prognosis of collecting duct carcinoma is worse than that of clear cell carcinoma.
