The hazards of magnetic therapy mattress

The hazards of magnetic therapy mattress

The principle of magnetic therapy is to use artificial magnetic fields to affect the body's meridians, acupoints, etc., thereby achieving the purpose of preventing and curing diseases. Magnetic therapy has good effects in the treatment of many diseases and has been applied to our daily necessities. Magnetic therapy mattresses are a typical example. However, improper use will endanger our health. So, what are the dangers of magnetic therapy mattresses? Let’s take a look below.

Magnetic therapy is a method of treating certain diseases by applying artificial magnetic fields to the human body's meridians, acupoints and lesions. At present, hospitals' professional magnetic therapy equipment is used to assist in the treatment of hypertension (cardiothoracic surgery and cardiovascular medicine), arthritis, headache (neurology), insomnia, coronary heart disease (cardiovascular medicine), gastroenteritis, hemifacial spasm (neurology and otolaryngology), as well as sprains, cervical spondylosis (orthopedics and neurology), etc. However, there is a general lack of evidence-based medical evidence for its effectiveness, so it cannot be said that it has magical effects.

Moreover, in clinical practice, magnetic therapy intensities are divided into small, medium and large. Below 100mT (millitesla) is considered a small magnetic field, which is generally used to calm the nerves, improve insomnia and early heart disease; 100~300mT is a medium magnetic field, which is most commonly used for surgical diseases such as sprains; 300~600mT is a high-intensity magnetic field, which most hospitals cannot achieve. During magnetic therapy, doctors need to constantly adjust the magnetic field size and duration based on the patient's response.

Three types of people should not use

Magnet is cold in nature and can calm the mind, improve hearing and wisdom, and generally help improve sleep quality. However, it should be noted that magnetic therapy needs to be used according to personal constitution and symptoms. People who have long-term poor sleep and are easily irritable can try it.

Ouyang Qi also reminded that although magnetic therapy mattresses are generally safe, they also have contraindications. Generally speaking, three types of people are not suitable for using magnetic therapy mattresses: 1. People with metal foreign bodies in their bodies, such as fracture patients (orthopedics). There may be metal fixation pins in the affected area, and magnetic therapy can easily loosen the fixation pins, which is not conducive to bone recovery; 2. People with implanted pacemakers. The magnetic field may interfere with the normal operation of the pacemaker. Once cardiac arrest occurs, the consequences are disastrous; 3. Special populations, including those with severe heart, liver, and kidney diseases, those with bleeding or bleeding tendency, extremely weak constitution, and those with high fever. In addition, pregnant women's abdomen and male testicles should avoid contact with magnetic therapy mattresses to avoid affecting the reproductive health of the fetus and men.

It is particularly important to note that improper use of magnetic therapy products can cause harm to the body. If the magnetic field strength is too small, the expected therapeutic effect may not be achieved; if the magnetic field strength is too large, it may cause adverse reactions such as dizziness and vomiting. At this time, the problem can be solved by stopping treatment, reducing the treatment dose or changing the magnetic therapy method. In addition, the "Guidelines" specifically list the possible hazards and consequences of magnetic therapy products, including electric shock, burns, harmful radiation, infection, etc. If consumers accidentally purchase magnetic therapy products with low safety performance produced by unscrupulous merchants, they may encounter the above situations. Therefore, before purchasing magnetic therapy products such as home magnetic therapy mattresses, you should consult a doctor first.
