What is methyl ethyl ketone peroxide curing agent?

Modern industrial production is inseparable from various chemical agents, because chemical agents can help various raw materials to transform or catalyze reactions to produce substances that are useful to people. However, most industrial agents are very dangerous. For example, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide curing agent is a commonly used dangerous industrial agent. Let’s take a look at what methyl ethyl ketone peroxide curing agent is?

Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is also known as 2-butanone peroxide. Abbreviated as MEKP, molecular weight 178.21, colorless, transparent, oily liquid. Relative density (15℃/4℃): 1.042. It is stable at room temperature and explodes when the temperature is higher than 100°C. Flash point 50℃. What is actually used is a 50% to 60% MEKP dimethyl phthalate solution. Decomposition temperature 105℃. Soluble in benzene, alcohol, ether and ester, insoluble in water. Low toxicity.

Chemical properties: Colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a pleasant odor.

Uses: Used as room temperature curing agent for unsaturated polyester resin, initiator for organic synthesis, bleaching agent, bactericide.

Production method: It is prepared by the reaction of methyl ethyl ketone and hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide) in the presence of sulfuric acid. The finished product is obtained through oxidation, neutralization, separation, dehydration, standing, filtering and finally adding a solubilizer.

Toxicity rating: Highly toxic

Acute toxicity: Oral-rat LD50: 484 mg/kg; Oral-mouse LD50: 470 mg/kg

Irritation data: Skin - rabbit 500 mg; Eyes - rabbit 3 mg

Dangerous characteristics of explosives: Can explode when mixed with reducing agents, sulfur, phosphorus, etc.; Can explode when subjected to friction, light, heat, or impact

Flammability Hazard Characteristics: Can burn at high temperatures; produces irritating smoke when burned

Usage Notes:

When packaging white water, pay attention to the indoor temperature and humidity of the environment. After using white water, the production site should place the remaining white water in a plastic container and add a certain amount of water into the container (in summer).

Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide can have an impact on the skin and respiratory tract. Be especially careful not to let it come into direct contact with the skin. Wear acid-resistant and alkali-resistant gloves for protection. If it accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse with plenty of water and go to the hospital for treatment.

When using, try to wear a protective mask as long-term inhalation may be harmful to the body.
