What is ovarian cancer?

Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumor of the ovary, 90% to 95% of which refers to malignant tumors that grow on the ovaries. Primary ovarian cancer accounts for 5% to 10%. Primary cancer will metastasize to other parts of the ovary. Due to the lack of symptoms in the early stages of ovarian cancer, even if there are symptoms, the screening effect is limited, early diagnosis is difficult, and the treatment effect is poor in 60% to 70% of advanced cases. Although the incidence of ovarian cancer is lower than that of cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, the mortality rate exceeds the sum of cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, and it is the biggest disease that seriously threatens women's health.

Due to the complexity of ovarian embryonic development, tissue anatomy and endocrine function, its tumors may be benign or malignant. Since ovarian cancer is asymptomatic in the early stage, it is difficult to identify its tissue type and whether it is benign or malignant. During laparotomy for ovarian cancer, tumors will be found, most of which have spread to the bilateral adnexa of the uterus, the greater omentum and the pelvic organs, so ovarian cancer is indeed a big problem in diagnosis and treatment. Over the years, experts have discussed the pathological morphology, clinical development laws and treatment plans of ovarian malignant tumors and accumulated a lot of experience. So far, according to clinical data at home and abroad, its five-year survival rate is only 25% to 30%.

Ovarian cancer is a relatively common disease, affecting about 1.4% of women. But if it is detected early, 90% of patients can survive; after the cancer spreads to the ovaries, the survival rate is less than 30%.
