How effective is interferon in treating gastric cancer

Regarding interferon and gastric cancer, experts are studying different doses, different medications and other combinations to explore the inhibitory effect of interferon and chemotherapy drugs in combination in vitro on human gastric cancer cell lines. The human gastric cancer cell line FGC-85 was used as the target cell, and the drug sensitivity experiment was performed using tumor cell colony formation. The inhibitory effect of different combinations of interferon α-2b (IFNα2b) and fluorouracil on the proliferation of human gastric cancer cell lines was analyzed. The experimental groups were chemotherapy drugs.

Interferon is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent that does not directly kill or inhibit viruses. Instead, it mainly inhibits the replication of hepatitis B virus by causing cells to produce antiviral proteins through the action of cell surface receptors. There are three types: α- (leukocyte), β- (fibroblast) and γ- (lymphocyte). It can also enhance the activity of natural killer cells (NK cells), macrophages and T lymphocytes, thereby playing an immunomodulatory role and enhancing antiviral ability. Interferon is a group of active proteins (mainly glycoproteins) with multiple functions. It is a cytokine produced by monocytes and lymphocytes. They have broad-spectrum antiviral effects on the same cells, affect cell growth and differentiation, regulate immune function and other biological activities.
Years of research have shown that the combination of interferon and chemotherapy drugs can achieve better results in the treatment of certain malignant tumors, such as hairy cell leukemia, multiple myeloma, malignant melanoma, renal cell carcinoma, etc. At present, there are few studies on the clinical treatment of advanced gastric cancer with interferon.
