The relationship between HPV virus and cervical cancer

The relationship between HPV virus and cervical cancer. Genital warts are a sexually transmitted disease caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. They are common in young and middle-aged men and women who have frequent sexual intercourse and a history of unclean sexual intercourse. After the treatment of genital warts, the HPV virus present around the genitals will be reduced or eliminated. However, for female patients, the HPV virus hidden in their cervical epithelium is difficult to be discovered and eliminated, causing hidden dangers of cervical cancer in women.

On the one hand, from the perspective of etiology, the presence of carcinogenic DNA gene fragments in HPV16 and HPV18 hidden in the cervical epithelium leads to the occurrence of cervical cancer. There are many types of HPV viruses that cause genital warts, mainly HPV6, HPV11, etc. However, HPV16 and HPV18 hidden in the cervical epithelium can greatly increase the possibility of cervical cancer. Experiments have shown that when the DNA fragments of HPV16 or HPV18 are integrated into the genome of the basal cells of the cervical epithelium, carcinogenic DNA gene fragments will appear, thus leading to the possibility of cervical cancer.

On the other hand, clinical case studies have shown that among women whose cervical epithelium is infected with HPV16 or HPV18, eighty percent of patients develop moderate to severe atypical hyperplasia of the cervix within two years, increasing the likelihood of cervical cancer.

After years of clinical observation, HPV infection is also closely related to the prognosis of cervical cancer. Taking 10 years as the dividing line, the positive detection rate of HPV is higher in cervical cancer patients who survive less than 10 years than those who survive more than 10 years. Female patients with genital warts should be more vigilant and prevent cervical cancer. Regular physical examinations can help eliminate the risk of cervical cancer or early detection and early treatment.
