Treatment of colon cancer

Treatment of colon cancer

Since intestinal function is affected, patients with colon cancer will have symptoms of intermittent diarrhea. Some patients will also have constipation during the illness. Patients with colon cancer should judge the severity of their illness based on these symptoms and choose a treatment method that suits them according to their condition.

What are the common treatments for colon cancer?

1. Chemotherapy: After radical surgery for colorectal cancer, 50% of cases still have recurrence and metastasis. Therefore, preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy may increase the 5-year survival rate after radical surgery.

2. Radiotherapy: Preoperative radiotherapy can shrink the tumor and improve the resection rate; postoperative radiotherapy can kill residual tumor cells.

3. Endoscopic treatment: For early mucosal cancer, endoscopic resection can be performed. For advanced tumors, stents can be placed under endoscopy to prevent stenosis and obstruction.

4. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine: can be used as auxiliary and supportive treatment to improve symptoms and prolong survival.

5. Surgery: It is the most effective method for curing colon cancer. Patients who are suitable for surgery should undergo surgical resection as soon as possible. These are the treatment methods for colon cancer. Please read them carefully.

In addition, symptoms of colon cancer may also include abdominal masses, which are generally irregular in shape, hard in texture, and nodular in surface. Transverse colon and sigmoid colon cancers have a certain degree of mobility and mild tenderness in the early stage. If ascending and descending colon cancers have penetrated the intestinal wall and adhered to surrounding organs, chronic perforation to form abscesses or pierced adjacent organs to form internal fistulas, the masses of colon cancer are mostly fixed, with unclear edges and obvious tenderness.

Patients with colon cancer should pay attention that after the onset of colon cancer, they will experience symptoms similar to chronic cholecystitis. If the patient does not undergo a detailed examination, it is easy to be misdiagnosed as chronic cholecystitis, which will delay the treatment of colon cancer. Therefore, when we find that there is a problem with our intestinal function, we must go to a regular large hospital for examination.
