Traditional Chinese medicine treatment of laryngeal cancer of wind-heat stagnation type and liver depression, qi stagnation and heat accumulation type

Laryngeal cancer can be divided into wind-heat obstruction type and liver depression, qi stagnation and heat accumulation type. The treatment methods are as follows:

1. Wind-heat blocking type

Main symptoms: dry throat, dry choking without phlegm, hoarseness, nasal congestion and pharyngeal obstruction, thin yellow tongue coating, floating and rapid pulse, etc.

Treatment method: Soothe wind, clear heat and relieve sore throat, assist with detoxification and relieving nodules.

Prescription: Puji Xiaodu Yin (Yifang Jijie) with modifications, Scrophularia 12g, Puffball 10g, Bombyx Batryticatus 12g, Sophora flavescens 12g, Flos Lonicerae 5g, Asparagus cochinchinensis 15g, Ophiopogon japonicus 15g, Beehive 15g, Scutellaria barbata 30g, Hedyotis diffusa 30g.

For those with excessive heat in the lungs and stomach, sore throat, and difficulty swallowing, add Scutellaria baicalensis, Coptis chinensis, Forsythia suspensa, Chinese lantern, Gardenia jasminoides, Licorice, Platycodon grandiflorum, etc.; for those with hard and astringent stools, add Xuanming powder, raw rhubarb, etc. to clear the heat in the lungs and stomach.

Analysis: The puffball, Sophora flavescens, honeysuckle, Scutellaria barbata, and Hedyotis diffusa in the formula clear away heat, detoxify, and reduce swelling; Scrophularia ningpoensis, Asparagus cochinchinensis, and Radix Ophiopogonis nourish yin and reduce fire; and Beehive dispels wind, attacks toxins, and relieves swelling and pain. The whole formula has the effect of dispelling wind, clearing heat, detoxifying, and reducing swelling.

2. Liver depression, qi stagnation, and heat accumulation

Main symptoms: fullness in the chest and flanks, dizziness, discomfort in the throat, foreign body sensation, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, bitter taste in the mouth and dry throat, dry tongue with thin yellow coating, and thready pulse, which are signs of early and middle stage laryngeal cancer.

Treatment method: Soothe the liver and relieve depression, clear and drain liver fire.

Prescription: Danzhi Xiaoyao Powder (from Internal Medicine Abstract) with modifications. Cortex Moutan 9g, Gardenia 9g, Angelica 10g, Peony 12g, Bupleurum 9g, Mentha 4.5g, Poria 12g, Raw Atractylodes 10g, Raw Licorice 5g, Sophora flavescens 12g, Belamcanda 9g, Hedyotis diffusa 30g.

Analysis: Bupleurum and mint in the formula soothe the liver and relieve depression; Cortex Moutan, Gardenia, Belamcanda, Sophora flavescens, Hedyotis diffusa and raw licorice clear away heat and detoxify, relieve sore throat and reduce swelling; Angelica, Peony root, Bupleurum and mint soothe the blood vessels of the liver meridian; Atractylodes macrocephala and Poria cocos nourish the spleen and earth, and strengthen the earth to resist wood insults. The whole formula is a remedy for soothing the liver and relieving depression, and clearing away stagnant fire.
