Luo Yonghao is 74 years old and currently lives in Beijing. He has always been in good health, but he has a habit of smoking. In March this year, he began to have difficulty urinating. Later, he developed symptoms of frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating, which seriously affected the old man's sleep and normal life. Accompanied by his family, he went to the hospital for treatment. After questioning, the doctor conducted a comprehensive examination for the old man. The physical signs showed: percussion pain in the kidney area, a prostate enlarged to the second degree by rectal examination, a shallow central groove, and no palpable nodules. After the bladder was filled, an ultrasound examination was performed. Ultrasound findings: the bladder was well filled, the prostate size was about 5.09cm (anteroposterior diameter) × 6.12cm (transverse diameter) × 5.68cm (superior and inferior diameter), the prostate was significantly enlarged, irregular in shape, with uneven internal echoes, unclear capsule, and infiltrated edges. The bottom wall of the bladder was significantly thickened, about 0.8cm, and not smooth. There was an irregular weak echo of 3.1cm×2.7cm on the right wall and the entrance of the right ureter, with a cauliflower-like surface. The right kidney collecting system was separated by 7.01cm×1.54cm. Pathological results: prostate cancer As Lao Luo was old and the internal consumption of the tumor made his physical condition unable to tolerate surgical treatment, and considering the series of complications that might be caused by the surgery, the hospital and the patient's family consulted and decided to give Lao Luo radiotherapy and hormone therapy. However, as the treatment progressed, Lao Luo's symptoms tended to worsen, with severe pain in his right lower limb and difficulty urinating. In addition to the damage and side effects of chemotherapy, Lao Luo's body quickly lost weight, so he had to stop chemotherapy. Later, the hospital's traditional Chinese medicine doctor developed a corresponding Chinese medicine treatment plan for Lao Luo based on his condition. After several courses of treatment, Lao Luo's symptoms were significantly alleviated, and the lesions did not show any tendency to expand and metastasize. He is still receiving treatment. For patients like Lao Luo who are older and cannot tolerate surgery and chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine may be used for treatment. As a precious medical resource in our country, traditional Chinese medicine still has its unique features in cancer treatment. |
