The occurrence of gastric cancer has a certain relationship with heredity

Gastric cancer has a clear tendency to cluster in families, and the family incidence rate is 2 to 3 times higher than that of the general population. However, it is generally believed that the role of genetic factors in the development of gastric cancer is not as important as that in colon cancer and rectal cancer. However, a family history of gastric cancer is still a risk factor worthy of attention.

my country once conducted a comparative investigation in several large cities and found that those with a family history of gastric cancer or tumors had a significantly higher incidence of gastric cancer than those without a history of tumors, about 4 times higher. It was also found that there was consistency in the incidence of gastric cancer in twin brothers, with identical twins having a higher incidence than fraternal twins. The Japanese who immigrated to the United States and their descendants found that the incidence of gastric cancer was still higher than that of local white Americans, which indirectly reflects that gastric cancer is related to genetics.

The familial inheritance of gastric cancer is currently believed to be caused by chromosomal aberrations, which can sometimes be passed on to offspring. However, this inheritance is not direct cancer inheritance, but rather an individual's tendency to develop cancer. When the body's immune function is low or defective, it can increase susceptibility to gastric cancer, and the mutated cells cannot be eliminated in the bud stage in time, leading to the occurrence of gastric cancer.

Therefore, family members with family clustering should take good care of their stomachs and avoid various adverse environmental stimuli. If they experience upper abdominal discomfort, or vomiting blood, black stools, weight loss and other symptoms, they should seek medical attention in time for timely diagnosis and early treatment.
