Postoperative care for renal cancer patients after nephrectomy

Postoperative care for renal cancer patients after nephrectomy

Radical nephrectomy is the main method for treating renal cancer. The resection scope includes the affected kidney, perirenal fat and perirenal fascia, and regional enlarged lymph nodes. It causes great damage to the patient, so scientific care should be carried out after the operation.

1. After nephrectomy, the patient should lie flat with his head turned to one side before waking up from general anesthesia to prevent suffocation due to aspiration of vomit. Generally, he needs to lie flat for 2 to 3 days and can get out of bed only after observing that there are no complications.

2. After nephrectomy, do not remove the gauze covering the wound at will, touch the wound with your hands or clean the wound with water to avoid wound infection. If there are signs of infection, seek timely treatment.

3. If patients undergoing nephrectomy experience abdominal distension, they can use gastrointestinal decompression, rectal tube venting, or take Chinese medicine under the guidance of a doctor.

4. Within 3 to 5 days after nephrectomy, patients often have fever, with body temperature around 38°C, and physical methods can be used to reduce the temperature.

5. After surgery, you should pay attention to urination at any time. If the urine volume is less than 500ml within 24 hours, you should be alert to dehydration or renal failure.

6. The pain of the incision after nephrectomy usually reaches its peak within 24 hours, lasts about 48 to 72 hours and can be relieved on its own. If the incision is still painful 4 to 5 days after the operation and gradually worsens, you should inform your doctor in time.

7. After surgery, timely treatment measures should be taken for increased non-protein nitrogen, acidosis, water and electrolyte imbalance, etc. based on clinical conditions and laboratory test results.

8. If the patient eats less after surgery, intravenous fluid replacement is required.

9. If necessary, radiotherapy or anticancer drug treatment should be carried out promptly after nephrectomy according to the nature of the tumor.
