9 Months to Treat Pediatric Ovarian Cancer

Tiantian, 10 years old, was hospitalized for treatment due to abdominal pain for 2 weeks and a left abdominal mass to be investigated. Pyelonegration before hospitalization: no left imaging, compression of the left bladder wall. Ovarian cancer was suspected, ovarian tumor and left upper abdominal metastasis, blood and biochemical tests were all within normal range. Laparotomy was performed in the hospital, and the surgical findings were: 18cm×10cm tumor in the left upper abdomen, nodular, hard, and fixed; left kidney was compressed; mesenteric lymph nodes were enlarged, and the greater omentum was covered with nodules of varying sizes; the left ovarian tumor was 8cm×6cm×6cm. The surface blood vessels were dilated and slightly active. Left oophorectomy and biopsy of the left upper abdominal tumor were performed. Pathological diagnosis: left ovarian germ cell cancer, tumor cell infiltration in the lymph nodes, and the patient was discharged after ineffective western medicine treatment.

Tiantian's parents held a glimmer of hope and chose traditional Chinese medicine for treatment. Physical examination: poor general condition, yellow face, thin, unable to walk. No yellowing of skin and sclera, superficial lymph nodes are not large. Heart and lungs (-). Abdomen is swollen, a mass of 12cm×12cm is felt in the left upper abdomen, and a mass of 4cm×4cm is felt in the left lower abdomen, with unclear boundaries, hard texture, fixed, no mobile dullness, and thin white fur. Diagnosed as ovarian cancer, the syndrome is deficiency of the body and excess of evil, deficiency of both qi and yin, qi stagnation and blood stasis.

Treatment was mainly based on Yiqi Qingre Decoction, with the following medicines prescribed: Codonopsis pilosula, raw Astragalus, Solanum nigrum, Scutellaria barbata, Bletilla striata, Hedyotis diffusa, Biejia (pre-decocted), Eclipta prostrata, Toosendan fruit, and raw Crataegus pinnatifida. One dose per day, decocted in water, divided into morning and evening doses. At the same time, oral N-formyl sarcolytic tablets were taken, twice a day, one tablet each time, for 9 consecutive months.

After Tiantian took the medicine for 2 months, the tumor was no longer palpable. After 5 months, an 8.4cm×6cm low-pitched mass was detected by B-ultrasound. After 9 months, no mass was palpable in the abdomen, and no abnormality was found in the rectal examination. The original prescription was added with Poria cocos, Chinese yam, and white peony root. The dosage was the same as above, and N-formyl sarcolytic tablets were continued, once a day, 1 tablet each time. After 15 months, no mass was found in the B-ultrasound scan. After 21 months, no recurrence was found, and the Chinese medicine was changed to take 1 dose every 2 days. After 3 years, Chinese and Western medicines were stopped. After 3 and a half years, no mass was found in the B-ultrasound scan.
