Prevention and care of infection during chemotherapy for ovarian cancer

Infection is one of the most common and serious complications for ovarian cancer patients during chemotherapy. Whether the infection can be prevented and cared for properly directly affects the treatment effect. Only by effectively carrying out a series of nursing work for ovarian cancer patients during chemotherapy can we effectively prevent and reduce the occurrence of infection.

1. Protective Isolation

Ovarian cancer patients should stay in single rooms during chemotherapy, with no visitors allowed and protective isolation implemented to prevent cross infection.

2. Disinfection of wards

During chemotherapy, the wards where ovarian cancer patients live should be ventilated by opening windows regularly to maintain appropriate temperature and humidity. The wards should be disinfected with ultraviolet light twice a day for 30 minutes each time. The floors, walls, bedside tables, water dispensers, etc. should be wiped and disinfected twice a day with 0.3% 84 disinfectant.

3. Oral care

During chemotherapy, ovarian cancer patients should avoid eating raw, cold, irritating, and hard foods, avoid oral damage, and rinse their mouths with 1:2000 chlorhexidine solution before and after meals every day. For those with oral ulcers, calcium tetrahydrofolate or gentian violet can be applied externally.

4. Prevention and care of injection site infection

Strictly implement aseptic operation techniques. To ensure that the puncture is correct, before infusing chemotherapy drugs, normal saline should be infused first, and then chemotherapy drugs should be infused to avoid chemotherapy drugs from penetrating into the subcutaneous tissue and causing necrosis or infection. In addition, the injection site should be changed frequently to protect blood vessels and prevent the occurrence of phlebitis.
