Can hereditary myopia be cured?

Nowadays, there are a lot of people suffering from myopia. It is no exaggeration to say that seven out of ten students are shortsighted, or even more. We all know that myopia may be inherited to a certain extent. So, is it possible to cure hereditary myopia? Whether our eyes are nearsighted still requires later prevention, and the vision of the eyes can be corrected through later treatment. This article introduces the relevant situation, let’s take a look.

Although congenital myopia is caused by hereditary factors, children can still maintain healthy vision through active prevention and treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine advocates "acquired care for the innate", believing that myopia and astigmatism can be completely corrected through daily diet, exercise, treatment and other acquired conditioning to compensate for genetic factors and restore healthy vision. In terms of diet, parents should try to let children eat less sweets and eat more foods rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, C and E. Common foods rich in vitamins include eggs, milk, fish, meat, liver, and fresh vegetables and fruits.

To prevent acquired myopia, it is also necessary to pay attention to improving the visual environment, standardizing classroom lighting, ensuring that the ratio of window light-transmitting area to classroom is not less than 1:6, ensuring that the blackboard is non-reflective, developing a good writing posture, taking a break and looking into the distance after 40-50 minutes of homework, doing eye exercises, and not walking, riding, lying down, or reading or writing in direct sunlight or dim light. Students should also reduce homework and increase outdoor activities, which can both enhance their physical fitness and prevent and treat myopia.

If a child is found to have signs of myopia, he or she should be taken to the hospital for examination in time, have the pupil dilated and the eyes tested, and be fitted with appropriate glasses. In addition, it must be noted that glasses are medical supplies rather than general commodities, and the quality is crucial, so you must go to a large hospital or a reputable optical shop to get your glasses fitted.

The expert finally pointed out that since children do not have a strong sense of self-control, parents and teachers should help children take care of their eyes. If the following points are achieved, children's myopia and other eye diseases can be effectively prevented: First, develop good hygiene habits, eat a reasonable diet, exercise, and ensure physical and mental health; second, correct bad habits and develop good eye hygiene; third, go to an ophthalmology hospital regularly to check the eyes, especially for patients with high myopia, to detect eye diseases in time so that they can be detected and treated early.
