Many patients will suffer from a second attack of sinusitis after catching a cold after curing sinusitis. This is a common situation because sinusitis itself has the ability to recur. If you catch a cold frequently, your nasal congestion will become more and more serious. Over time, the inflammation in your nasal cavity will worsen. So what should you do if sinusitis recurs? What are the symptoms of sinusitis? 1. Nasal congestion The severity varies, and is mostly caused by congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa and increased secretions. Nasal congestion can often cause temporary olfactory impairment. 2. Headache Chronic purulent sinusitis generally presents with significant local pain or headache. If you have a headache, it is often a dull pain or a feeling of heaviness in the head that is worse during the day and less severe at night. The former group of sinusitis often presents with swelling or dull pain in the forehead and root of the nose, while the latter group of sinusitis often presents with headaches at the top of the head, temporal region, or occipital region. When suffering from odontogenic maxillary sinusitis, it is often accompanied by pain in the upper teeth on the same side. 3. Excessive purulent discharge The nasal discharge is mostly purulent or mucopurulent, yellow or yellow-green in color, with varying amounts, and mostly flows to the throat. If there is a foul odor on one side, it is often seen in odontogenic maxillary sinusitis. 4. Others Due to the flow of purulent mucus into the pharynx and long-term mouth breathing, it is often accompanied by symptoms of chronic pharyngitis, such as excessive sputum, foreign body sensation, or dry and painful throat. If the Eustachian tube is affected, symptoms such as tinnitus and deafness may also occur. In winter, people should be vigilant against acute attacks of sinusitis, especially those with a history of chronic sinusitis. They should take early prevention measures and strengthen self-protection, focusing on keeping warm, preventing upper respiratory tract infections, avoiding smoking and maintaining indoor air circulation. Reduce the chances of going out when the wind is biting cold. When going out, dress warmly and wear a mask, hat and scarf. Do not blow your nose hard or pick your nose with your hands after catching a cold. When you have a stuffy nose, apply a hot towel to your nose or inhale hot steam through your nose to promote the flow of mucus to prevent nasal secretions from clogging your sinuses and prevent inflammation from spreading from the nasal cavity to the sinuses. Once people develop purulent nasal discharge, nasal congestion, headache, toothache, cheek pain and other symptoms after a cold, they should consider the possibility of an acute attack of sinusitis and go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time. Since the course of acute sinusitis is often long, often lasting from 1 month to several months, there are two things you need to do after you get sick: First, comprehensive treatment measures should be taken, such as supplementing decongestants, anti-allergic drugs, hormones and nasal saline sprays on the basis of effective anti-infection, in order to shorten the course of the disease. Second, be patient, follow the doctor's advice, and adhere to standardized treatment to relieve symptoms, reduce pain, and prevent it from developing into recurrent or chronic sinusitis. |
