In what cases is a gastroscopy needed to detect diseases

No matter if people around us have intestinal or stomach problems, everyone will generally just endure it and it will pass. If it lasts for a long time, they will take some medicine. Generally, when going to the hospital for a check-up, people are afraid when the doctor asks them to do a gastroscopy, as they think it is very painful. Some gastrointestinal tumors are not examined in the early stages, resulting in missing the right treatment period. Therefore, if we have any problems with our intestines and stomach, we must check them out in time.

1. Upper abdominal pain: A variety of diseases can cause upper abdominal pain, some mild and some severe. Severe cases may threaten the patient's life, and the treatment methods for various pains are different, so first of all, you must check what the disease is. People over 50 years old should pay special attention to this.

2. Unexplained loss of appetite and weight loss: Severe stomach problems are often the cause of loss of appetite and weight loss.

3. Hematemesis: Patients with hematemesis vomit bright red or dark red blood, and sometimes the patients have black, tarry stools.

4. Pain behind the sternum, burning sensation, difficulty swallowing, or a feeling of obstruction when eating, suspected esophageal disease.

5. Patients with acid reflux and heartburn: This symptom indicates that gastric juice has refluxed into the esophagus and irritated and damaged the esophagus. In this case, a gastroscopy can determine the extent and range of the lesion so that timely treatment can be provided.

6. Anyone suspected of having esophageal, gastric and duodenal diseases but unable to be diagnosed after comprehensive examination (including X-ray examination).

7. Esophageal, gastric and duodenal ulcers can be detected by gastroscopy, and their healing status can be followed up to distinguish between benign and malignant.

8. For patients suspected of esophageal cancer and gastric cancer, gastroscopy can improve the accuracy of diagnosis, detect early lesions, and provide treatment.

9. Upper abdominal mass: Gastroscopy can determine the location of the mass and whether it is benign or malignant.

10. Gastroscopy can diagnose upper gastrointestinal polyps and raised lesions and provide treatment.

11. In cases of massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding, emergency gastroscopy can determine the cause and provide treatment.

12. Chronic inflammation of the upper gastrointestinal tract requires diagnosis with the aid of gastroscopy; chronic atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia or atypical hyperplasia can be diagnosed and followed up by gastroscopy.

13. After gastric surgery, regardless of the cause: If symptoms are found, lesions can be detected and followed up through gastroscopy. People who have undergone gastric surgery in the past need to have regular gastroscopy examinations.

14. Foreign objects swallowed into the esophagus and stomach: If foreign objects such as buttons, pins, coins, etc. are swallowed into the stomach, they can be treated promptly through gastroscopy.

15. During routine physical examinations, if you have a family history of gastric cancer or live in an area with a high incidence of gastric cancer or esophageal cancer, you should consider having a gastroscopy.

If you have one or more of the above symptoms or conditions, it is best to go to a regular hospital to see a doctor and have a gastroscopy.
