Is potassium permanganate effective for washing hemorrhoids?

When patients with hemorrhoids go to the hospital for treatment, most doctors will first determine the stage of the patient's hemorrhoids. For patients with late-stage hemorrhoids, they can only undergo surgery to remove the hemorrhoids to cure the disease. For early stage patients, some relatively mild treatments can be tried. Some people suggest using potassium permanganate to wash hemorrhoids. So does potassium permanganate really work for washing hemorrhoids?

Potassium permanganate can treat hemorrhoids

Potassium permanganate is an inorganic compound that kills bacteria by oxidizing the active genes in bacteria. In medicine, it can be used as an antiseptic, disinfectant, and water purifier in the home. Low concentrations of potassium permanganate also have an astringent effect.

Patients with hemorrhoids can choose potassium permanganate as a medicine for warm water sitz bath and add it to the warm water sitz bath. The following points should be noted:

1. The concentration of the solution should be about 0.01% (the solution should be rose red). Too high a concentration can cause corrosion.

2. Do not use hot water to prepare water, as it will decompose potassium permanganate and make it ineffective. It is best to use it as needed.

3. Pay attention to the time when taking a sitz bath, because potassium permanganate releases oxygen slowly, and the soaking time must be at least 5 minutes to kill the bacteria.

Finally, special attention should be paid to keep potassium permanganate out of the reach of children. Because it is corrosive and irritating, it can cause burns to the human body. This product also helps combustion. When mixed with organic matter (such as sugar) or sawdust during outdoor activities, friction can cause fire.

Potassium permanganate is dark purple, elongated prismatic crystals or granules with a blue metallic luster. It is odorless and is prone to explosion when in contact with certain organic matter or oxidizable substances. It is soluble in water and alkaline liquids, and slightly soluble in methanol, acetone, and sulfuric acid. Its molecular formula is KMnO4 and its molecular weight is 158.03400. It has a melting point of 240°C and is stable, but may cause fire if in contact with flammable materials. Substances to avoid include reducing agents, strong acids, organic materials, flammable materials, peroxides, alcohols, and chemically active metals
