Can colonoscopy detect hemorrhoids?

Can colonoscopy detect hemorrhoids?

Eating and sleeping are normal physiological needs of the human body. Most of the food the human body ingests will reach the stomach through the respiratory tract and be digested and absorbed by gastric juice. The remaining food residues will enter the large intestine and small intestine for a new round of digestion. For people with gastrointestinal discomfort, colonoscopy is usually required to analyze the cause. So can colonoscopy be used to check whether the patient has hemorrhoids?

Can colonoscopy be used to detect hemorrhoids?

Yes, colonoscopy is to check your intestinal problems, and it can detect hemorrhoids or anal fistulas.

What is the need for colonoscopy?

Before the test

1. Check whether you have eaten food with little residue and easily digestible food at noon and dinner the day before. (Such as porridge, noodles, etc.) Do not eat green vegetables, fruits, meat, etc. Do not eat breakfast on the day of the examination.

2. Take laxatives. Take 2 tablets of phenolphthalein tablets orally before going to bed on the night of the examination. Take the laxatives with 3000ml of warm water at 8 am on the day of the examination. People with constipation should eat semi-liquid food for 2 to 3 days and then take laxatives to cleanse the intestines.

3. While taking the medicine, the patient should walk back and forth and gently rub the abdomen to speed up the defecation. Generally, defecation will begin after half an hour, and the defecation can be basically cleared after 5 to 7 times of continuous defecation. Observe the stool: only clear water sample can be checked.

4. The patient can only eat a small amount of porridge at 2 pm on the same day to avoid collapse caused by fasting for too long.

5. Before the examination, the patient needs to put on surgical pants to fully expose the anus for the doctor to examine.

6. If you still don’t have a bowel movement after 4 hours of taking the laxative, it will be considered ineffective. You should go to the hospital to prepare for another bowel cleansing.

7. Women cannot undergo colonoscopy during menstruation.

Checking

1. Unclear intestinal preparation will affect examination and diagnosis. Patients should inform the doctor or nurse truthfully.

2. During the examination, lie on your left side with your legs bent, relax your whole body naturally, and breathe normally.

3. During the examination, the doctor needs to inject a small amount of air into the intestinal cavity. At this time, you will feel abdominal distension, and the patient will also feel distension and pain when the colonoscope moves forward. Please relax as much as possible and take deep breaths. The doctor may press your abdomen to help insert the endoscope. Do not be overly nervous or resist the pressure, otherwise it will increase the difficulty and risk of inserting the endoscope and prolong the operation time.

4. The examination takes an average of 15 minutes. If you experience abdominal pain or unbearable bloating during the examination, you can tell the doctor to inhale an appropriate amount of gas and rest for a while before continuing the examination.

After the inspection

1. Observe for half an hour to one hour after the examination. If there is no abdominal distension or other discomfort symptoms, you can eat a light meal. Patients generally fast for 1 day after polypectomy.

2. If you still have abdominal distension and pain after the treatment, please don’t be nervous. You can gently rub your abdomen and relax your anus to pass gas. If there is heavy bleeding or persistent abdominal pain, you should inform your doctor immediately to avoid accidents.

3. You are not allowed to drive motor vehicles, operate machinery or perform high-altitude operations to prevent accidents.
