Teeth are an indispensable part of the human body. The main function of teeth is to chew food. They can also assist in pronunciation and protect the oral cavity. If the teeth are shaped like saw teeth, it will directly affect the individual's appearance. The reasons for teeth being serrated are very complicated. When dealing with them, we must find the reasons. So what is the reason for teeth being serrated? First, why do teeth look like saw teeth? The cutting edges of normally developed upper and lower incisors and lateral incisors are jagged and uneven when they just erupt. We call this kind of serration the developmental nodule of the tooth - the incisal ridge nodule, which belongs to the normal anatomical morphology of the tooth. Because the development of teeth is formed by the joint development of multiple developmental lobes, in the front teeth, there are generally three developmental lobes. During the gradual formation of the teeth, the three developmental lobes gradually fuse, and the unfused parts form the uneven incisor ridge. As we age, our teeth gradually become flat due to wear and tear from chewing and biting. Second, tooth eruption is a slow process, during which the teeth themselves are constantly changing: the enamel also appears as linear ripples due to the fine grooves formed by the growth lines on its surface. This is why we often see several fine lines on the surface of our teeth, like cracked porcelain. They are actually horizontal glaze lines. The enamel surface of newly erupted young permanent teeth is covered with a thin layer of organic membrane called enamel cuticle, which is eliminated after tooth eruption through occlusion, chewing, abrasion and brushing. Third, there is another situation: the front teeth are still serrated after adulthood. Most of the time, it is because people like to use their front teeth to crack melon seeds more often, which causes wear on the edges of the teeth. We call it "melon seed teeth." Some parents often panic when they see something wrong with their children's teeth, thinking that they are calcium deficient, and try their best to give their children various calcium preparations and calcium products. In fact, there is no need to do so. What's more, it is of no use to give children calcium supplements now, because once the teeth erupt, the calcification of the teeth is basically completed, and calcium supplements will not make the teeth better. Although the teeth will continue to change and further calcify throughout their life, the degree of change is very limited. Once the teeth erupt in the mouth, calcification is basically completed and cannot be rebuilt through the metabolism of calcium and other substances absorbed by the body. |
