Are aphids harmful to humans?

Most aphids live in farmland and survive mainly by sucking plant sap. They are a very common agricultural pest. This insect can be found every year in recent years, and there have also been many aphids in cities in recent years. If the city’s greening is done well, it will attract a lot of aphids to reproduce in large numbers. Aphids have a particularly strong reproductive capacity. Are aphids harmful to the human body?

Aphids, commonly known as sticky insects and honey insects, are the pests with the largest occurrence and the longest damage period in pollution-free vegetables. Adults and nymphs mainly gather on the back of vegetable leaves, tender stems and other tender parts, sucking vegetable juices, causing the leaves to turn yellow, curl and deform, grow poorly, young leaves to become deformed, and plants to be short, directly affecting the healthy growth of vegetables. The large amount of molting and excrement produced by aphids during their growth process can induce sooty mold and contaminate the leaf surface. Reduced the commodity value of vegetables. In addition, vegetable aphids also spread viral diseases, causing the occurrence of vegetable viral diseases, and the losses caused are even greater than the aphid damage itself.

Prevention and control methods: Due to the strong reproductive ability, short reproductive cycle and easy development of drug resistance of aphids, any negligence in production will induce a large outbreak of aphids. Therefore, the prevention and control of aphids must be combined with agricultural management, a long-term prevention and control measure must be established, and then combined with chemical control to achieve better prevention and control effects.

In terms of cultivation management, early sowing can make the aphids appear after the plants grow up, thereby reducing the degree of damage caused by aphids; combine fertilizer accumulation with weed removal, and deal with stumps and rotten leaves in time after vegetable harvests; combine intertillage with removal of old and yellow leaves, remove diseased and insect-infested seedlings and take them out of the field for treatment. After harvesting vegetables, spray the herbicide Gramox® on them and combine it with stubble clearing to quickly kill weeds in the field, which can cause the aphids on the weeds to die naturally. Reduce the source of subsequent insects.

For facility cultivation, you can choose to use an insect-proof net with a specification of 40-50 mesh to fully cover the greenhouse or combine it with plastic film and use it at the entrance and vents of the greenhouse to prevent aphids from contacting vegetables. You can also use silver-gray film, yellow boards, etc. to repel or kill aphids. The silver-gray film to avoid aphids is a measure taken based on the principle that aphids do not like the silver-gray color and stay away from the silver-gray color. You can use silver-gray mulch to cover the ground, or hang silver-gray plastic strips at the entrance and vents of the field or greenhouse, with a hanging height of about 1 meter. Aphids have a strong tendency to attract bright yellow and orange colors and like to fly to yellow objects. Based on this habit, yellow boards can be set up to lure and kill aphids. Yellow boards can be purchased or made at home. When in use, coat the yellow boards with sticky insect glue or engine oil, fix them on bamboo poles or wooden sticks, and insert them above the vegetables, or fix the yellow boards on the trellis, 1-10 cm above the vegetable plants. When the yellow board has attracted more insects and consumed most of the adhesive, it can be washed and re-coated with insect glue and used again. Note! The silver-gray film to repel aphids and the yellow board trap can only target winged aphids and are ineffective against wingless aphids. Therefore, they are only suitable for the initial stage of winged aphids migration or the initial occurrence stage of vegetable aphids.

I believe that through the above sharing, most of our friends have a deeper understanding of the harm of aphids to the human body. Of course, I would like to remind everyone that we must understand the natural enemies of aphids, so that we can be more experienced in the process of eliminating aphids. At the same time, we should also learn more about insect prevention knowledge, so that we can get a higher quality harvest of vegetables and fruits we grow.
