What is a blood infection?

Clinical manifestations

1. Sudden onset of chills, high fever, tachycardia, rapid breathing, rash, hepatosplenomegaly, mental and consciousness changes, and a series of serious clinical symptoms. Severe cases may cause shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and multiple organ failure. If the bacteria only enter the blood briefly without clinically obvious toxic symptoms (such as blood vessel-related infection), it is called bacteremia.

Dangerous factors

① The integrity of the body's barrier function is destroyed, such as surgery, trauma, burns, intravenous needles, arterial and venous catheters, endotracheal intubation, etc.;

② Factors that cause the body's immunity to decline include iatrogenic factors, such as the use of hormones, chemotherapy, immunosuppressants, etc., and non-iatrogenic factors such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. In addition, coma, malnutrition, and old age are also risk factors for bloodstream infection.
