Will a fall on the coccyx cause a lumbar injury?

People often fall accidentally in the bathroom or on the road after rain. Falls in this situation usually hit the coccyx, and in severe cases can cause a comminuted fracture of the coccyx. As the saying goes, it takes a hundred days to heal a broken bone. Broken bones are very difficult to heal. So, if you fall and injure your coccyx, will your lumbar spine be injured as a result? In fact, there is little relationship between the two. Lumbar problems are mainly closely related to sitting and standing postures. Let’s take a look at the specific situation.

Symptoms gradually appear after coccyx injury, usually including: dizziness, irritability, chest tightness, lower back pain, chronic diarrhea, dry eyes, protruding bags under the eyes, pale complexion, drowsiness at noon and inability to fall asleep, increased wrinkles on the forehead, and chloasma on the face.

Because people maintain the same posture when watching TV for a long time, they will experience varying degrees of coccyx pain, sometimes radiating to the buttocks and thighs, commonly known as TV coccyx disease. Therefore, when watching TV for a long time, you should pay attention to properly moving your waist and not always maintain the same posture to watch TV programs. This is the fundamental way to prevent TV coccyx disease.

Coccyx pain care

For people with chronic coccyx pain, the most important thing is to minimize or avoid pressure on the affected area. When sitting normally, you can put a decompression cushion similar to a lifebuoy on the chair to reduce the pressure on the affected area. This hollow-designed cushion can disperse the pressure on the coccyx and buttocks, allowing patients to sit longer and work more conveniently.

You can take some calcium supplements to promote and accelerate recovery. Lower back pain caused by coccygeal injury (including coccygeal fracture, dislocation and subluxation) is a common and frequently occurring disease in clinical orthopedics, especially in women.

According to Brchman's report, among 115 patients with coccyx pain, 93 were women. From the random sampling statistics of female patients with lower back pain in outpatient clinics and wards, we found that they accounted for about 19%. This proportion is relatively large, which shows that the incidence rate is high.

From the perspective of Western medical anatomy, there is a ganglion in front of the coccyx that is a collection of sympathetic trunks that start from the base of the skull and run down both sides of the spine. It is called the sacral ganglion. Acute and chronic injuries to the tail stimulate the odds ganglion, which reflexively affects certain internal organs controlled by the sympathetic trunk area and causes disease. According to Chinese meridian theory, at the end of the coccyx there is a gathering of branches of the foot Shaoyang meridian, and under the coccyx there is the starting point of the Du meridian - Changqiang. Damage to the Changqiang point involves the Du channel and connected meridians, causing dysfunction of related organs and leading to illness due to overwork. Therefore, there is a theoretical basis for the claim that coccyx injury can cause premature aging.
