Although the living standards are better nowadays, it seems that there are more diseases all of a sudden. Perhaps this is due to people's emphasis on their own health, which has led to the current situation where there seem to be more diseases. Among them, the one that people fear the most is probably cancer. The giant cell tumor of bone we are going to talk about today is a low-grade malignant or potentially malignant tumor. It is highly invasive, has a great dissolving and destructive effect on bones, and has a high recurrence rate. Let's take a look at where its common sites are. Giant cell tumor of bone is one of the common primary bone tumors. Its origin is still unclear, but it may originate from the mesenchymal tissue in the bone marrow. Giant cell tumor of bone is highly invasive and has a great dissolving and destructive effect on bone. Very few of them have reactive new bone formation and a tendency to self-heal. They can penetrate the bone cortex to form soft tissue masses. The recurrence rate after curettage is high. A few of them may develop local malignant changes or lung metastases (the so-called benign metastases). Giant cell tumor of bone is a low-grade or potentially malignant tumor. The disease usually occurs between the ages of 20 and 50, and is more common in women than in men. The primary site of giant cell tumor of bone often occurs in the epiphysis, and gradually invades the metaphysis as the lesion expands. Giant cell tumor of bone often invades long bones, most commonly the lower end of the femur and the upper end of the tibia. (1) It often occurs in the long bones of the limbs, especially the distal femur, proximal tibia, distal radius and proximal femur. (2) The tumor grows faster than general benign tumors but slower than malignant tumors. (III) The main symptoms are local pain and tenderness. As the tumor develops, the area swells and deforms, and the temperature increases slightly. Because the bones expand and swell, they feel like squeezing a ping-pong ball when touched. (IV) When the tumor penetrates the bone tissue and spreads to the soft tissue, a larger mass is formed. The skin is tight and shiny, with a dark red color; the veins are engorged; the tumor is hard and tough, but ulcers may form in the softened and fluctuating areas. (V) A large amount of bone destruction, prone to pathological fractures. (VI) Main symptoms ① Local pain: Initially, it is mostly local numbness, soreness or intermittent dull pain, which worsens after fatigue and is relieved by rest. As the disease progresses, the pain intensifies and develops from intermittent to continuous, especially at night, which is closely related to qi stagnation and blood stasis. ② Swelling or lumps: They usually appear after a certain period of time of pain, and bone expansion and deformation can be felt. The local skin is flushed, blood vessels are abundantly exposed, and the rapidly growing ones have a cystic feeling or pulsation. Chinese medicine diagnosis is heat and toxic accumulation. ③ Functional impairment: In the later stage of giant cell tumor of bone, the affected part will suffer from functional impairment due to pain and swelling, which may be accompanied by muscle atrophy in the corresponding part. This is related to malnutrition of tendons and veins. |
