How does black light treat shingles?

Black light therapy is also known as ultraviolet light therapy. As the name suggests, it is a method of using ultraviolet rays to irradiate human skin to treat skin diseases, such as vitiligo, psoriasis, shingles, etc. Everyone knows that once you have a certain skin disease, it is difficult to cure it completely, which causes certain psychological and life troubles to many patients. Therefore, using black light to treat skin diseases is a good choice. This article will introduce how black light is used to treat shingles.

At present, ultraviolet light therapy has become one of the preferred methods for treating various skin diseases in developed countries such as Europe and the United States. my country's dermatology department has introduced the world's most advanced skin phototherapy equipment: the narrow-band ultraviolet (NB-UVB) phototherapy device produced by SIGMA. It uses narrow-spectrum medium-wave ultraviolet light with a peak value of 311nm, which concentrates the most biologically active part of ultraviolet light, while filtering out harmful ultraviolet rays in adverse bands that are harmful to the skin. It has the characteristics of fast onset, good efficacy and high safety.

NB-UVB is suitable for the treatment of various skin diseases such as vitiligo, psoriasis, herpes zoster, atopic dermatitis, pityriasis rosea, chronic urticaria, eczema, alopecia areata, myeloid granuloma, neurodermatitis, etc., especially for vitiligo and psoriasis. The biological mechanism of action of NB-UVB in treating vitiligo includes: stimulating the proliferation and migration of melanocytes. When melanocytes absorb UVB energy, they can also stimulate the activity of tyrosinase, accelerate the oxidation and polymerization of tyrosine, and increase melanin synthesis; it can promote keratinocytes to release factors that promote melanocyte proliferation and differentiation, such as endothelin-1 and fibroblast growth factor; UVB has an immunosuppressive effect, which can protect migrating and proliferating melanocytes from destruction. The overall effectiveness of NB-UVB in treating vitiligo is over 85%. This device can provide better treatment for vitiligo patients.

Herpes zoster is a common acute herpetiform skin disease in clinical practice, caused by varicella-zoster virus. The virus invades the body through respiratory tract infection and lurks in the nerve cells of the dorsal root ganglia of the spinal nerves or other disease sites. This virus may not cause disease under normal circumstances. However, when the body's immunity is reduced (for example, due to trauma, fatigue, colds, cancer, immune system diseases, etc.), the latent virus will multiply in large numbers, causing inflammation and necrosis of the ganglia, causing pain in the patient. At the same time, the virus is transmitted down along the nerve pathways to the area innervated by the nerve, causing segmental herpes. Clinically, it often presents as several clustered herpes groups arranged in bands, distributed along the peripheral nerves, often unilaterally, generally not exceeding the midline of the body surface, and mostly distributed in irregular bands, commonly found in the chest, abdomen, back and face. There is a burning sensation on the local skin, accompanied by neuralgia. At the beginning of the disease, the main symptoms are general fatigue, loss of appetite, and mild fever. Soon the affected area will feel burning and throbbing pain. If it occurs in the chest or waist, it is often misdiagnosed as heart disease or acute abdomen. This disease is equivalent to the "waist-wrapped fire sore", "spider sore", "snake sore", "fire belt sore", "steamer belt sore", "snake sore", "flying snake sore" and so on in traditional Chinese medicine. It is commonly known as "waist-wrapped dragon" and can occur all year round. If herpes zoster is not treated in time or with inappropriate methods, it will leave sequelae. Black light treatment is recommended.
