Blue light damage to eyes

Blue light damage to eyes

In nature, there is no blue light. It is generally a mixture of three types (blue light, green light and yellow light). However, the electronic products we use in our daily lives are composed of a large amount of blue light. Therefore, if we face these blue light devices for a long time, it will cause our eyes to experience vision loss, eye fatigue and other phenomena. Doing this for a long time will also cause damage to our skin.

What is Blue Light?

There is no separate white light in nature itself. Blue light is mixed with green light and yellow light to produce white light. Green and yellow light have lower energy and are less irritating to the eyes. Blue light has short waves and higher energy. LEDs, computer background lights and other artificial light sources retain a large amount of blue light, which makes the artificial light whiter and brighter. Some particularly bright white light gives people a bluish feeling, which is caused by an excessively high proportion of blue light. The visible light emitted by various new artificial light sources such as various computers, TV screens, energy-saving lamps, etc. contains a large amount of short-wave blue light with irregular frequency. The wavelength is between 400~~500nm.

What kind of damage can blue light cause to the eyes?

Long-term exposure to blue light can easily cause eye damage, especially macular degeneration. Blue light can penetrate the lens and reach the retina, causing optical damage to it, accelerating the oxidation of macular cells, producing a large number of free radicals, leading to cataracts and macular degeneration.

Are you still ignoring the erosion of blue light?

In the age of electronic products, blue light is everywhere. Relevant studies have shown that blue light has become the "number one killer" threatening eye health. The high incidence of eye diseases such as presbyopia, macular degeneration, dry eyes, glaucoma, and cataracts are all closely related to blue light.

Continuous blue light radiation can cause irreversible damage to the eyes

Blue light can directly reach the retina and cause myopia

Blue light can stimulate brown pigment, which is an important cause of yellow spots and freckles on the skin

Blue light can cause fundus damage after cataract surgery

Blue light can cause blurred vision, visual fatigue, dry eyes, and computer vision syndrome

Blue light can cause glare

Blue light can inhibit the secretion of melatonin, disturb sleep, and increase the incidence of major diseases

How to resist and prevent blue light?

Lutein accumulates in the macular area of the fundus. Before blue light reaches the sensitive cells on the retina, it first passes through the area with the highest lutein accumulation. At this time, if the lutein content in the macula is rich, the damage can be minimized. It can be seen that lutein can be said to be the only line of defense of the fundus against blue light, but lutein cannot be synthesized in the human body and needs to be taken from the outside to supplement sufficient lutein in the fundus. Corn, yellow-green vegetables, fruits, etc. contain lutein. Eating these foods can supplement the normal consumption of lutein by the human body. However, for modern people, the lutein obtained from food cannot meet the normal needs of the human body. You need to supplement with lutein products to get the lutein you need and protect your eyes from damage by blue light from screens. In addition to being able to deal with daily blue light damage, it can also be used for the prevention and postoperative rehabilitation of cataracts, the treatment and prevention of retinopathy, macular degeneration, the prevention of high myopia, visual fatigue, night blindness and other eye diseases.

If you can't do any of these, then get a pair of blue light blocking glasses.
