Why are my hands numb for no reason?

Friends often ask why their hands become numb for no reason? However, the numbness in the hands is not without reason. Every reaction of the body has a corresponding reason. Frequent numbness in the hands is most likely due to problems in some part of the body, which is largely caused by nerve entrapment. Let us now understand what nerve entrapment is.

Causes of frequent numbness in hands

Nerve compression can cause numbness in the hands:

1. Numbness and pain in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often with a history of waking up from the numbness at night, is caused by compression of the median nerve in the wrist, and the condition improves after waking up and moving around. In severe cases, there may be atrophy of the hand muscles, affecting the fine movements of the hands;

2. Numbness and pain in the ring and little finger, and a history of waking up from numbness at night, are caused by compression of the nerves at the elbow. In severe cases, there is muscle atrophy, decreased flexion strength of the ring and little fingers, and affected fine movements. The most common disease causing numbness in the hands is cervical spondylosis. In addition to numbness and abnormal sensation in the fingers, cervical spondylosis is often accompanied by symptoms such as numbness in the hands, neck and shoulder muscle soreness, radiating pain in the upper limbs, or movement disorders. Another common disease that causes numbness in the hands is stroke. If symptoms such as headache, dizziness, heavy head and light feet, numbness of limbs, and swelling of tongue often occur, and the patient also has diseases such as high blood pressure, high blood lipids, diabetes, cerebral arteriosclerosis, etc., more attention should be paid and be alert to the occurrence of stroke. Menopausal syndrome can also cause numbness in the hands: the numbness is not obvious, the location often changes, and it is not fixed. With the end of menopause, the numbness will disappear.

In short, patients with obvious symptoms of numbness in the hands and obvious atrophy of the intrinsic muscles of the hand should receive timely surgical treatment once the disease is diagnosed to prevent the progression of the disease, so as to avoid irreversible severe atrophy of the intrinsic muscles of the hand, leading to serious functional disorders of the hand.
