Usage and efficacy of honeycomb in treating rhinitis :

Studies have shown that honeycomb preparations can promote the body's cellular immune function. Honeycomb extract can inactivate hepatitis B surface antigen, and has a strong inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi and Proteus vulgaris; it also has an inhibitory effect on fungi such as Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium solani, and Leuconostoc. The chemical composition of honeycomb is very complex, mainly containing beeswax, resin, oil, pigment, tannin, sugar, organic acid, fatty acid, glycoside, enzyme and insect hormone.

Medicinal value of honeycomb :

"Shennong's Herbal Classic" records that "beeswax is sweet, slightly warm and non-toxic. It is mainly used to treat diarrhea and thick blood, tonify the middle, heal broken bones and wounds, invigorate qi, and prevent hunger and resist aging." This shows that at that time, people already knew that beehive was made of wax and that it could be used as a medicine to treat diseases. In the book Baopuzi, Ge Hong of the Jin Dynasty recorded the method of external application of beeswax; in the book Yaoxinglun, Zhen Quan, a famous doctor who lived to be 100 years old during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, wrote in "Yao Xing Lun" that "if the pain and swelling do not go away, mix beehive powder with vinegar and apply it, and change the application when it dries."

Sun Simiao, a famous medical scientist in the Tang Dynasty, recorded "Jiaowax Decoction" for treating dysentery and that beeswax "can stop intestinal pain" in his "Qianjin Yaofang" and "Qianjin Yifang"; Li Shizhen, a famous medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty, listed "beeswax" as a top-grade medicine in "Compendium of Materia Medica", and wrote that "wax is the essence of honey". Honeycomb, as a traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to treat boils for thousands of years. Honeycombs are still used by the people to treat various types of rhinitis.
