What are the symptoms of filamentary keratitis?

What are the symptoms of filamentary keratitis?

People's eyes are very important. Normally, the eyes do not get sick, but they are often infected with bacteria or rubbed in an incorrect way, leading to infectious diseases and causing filamentary keratitis, which can have a great impact on the human body and even cause endometrial infection, resulting in problems with the patient's cornea and vision impairment. Therefore, patients must first slowly adjust through appropriate methods. Generally, the condition will disappear on its own within a few days. More serious patients can go to the hospital for treatment, but do not forcibly remove them to avoid complications caused by corneal infection. Do not wear cosmetic contact lenses during treatment, do not use eye drops casually, use your eyes reasonably, pay more attention to rest, and keep your eyes healthy.

Filamentary keratitis (ophthalmology) Overview: Partial exfoliation of the corneal epithelium, forming a filamentous shape with one end attached to the corneal surface and the other end free, is called filamentary keratopathy.

The disease is associated with the following factors:

1. Abnormal proliferation of epithelial cells;

2. Abnormal junction between basement membrane and elastic membrane;

3. Excessive formation of mucoid is more common in dry eye disease and adenovirus or herpes simplex virus infection. It can also be seen in neurotrophic keratitis, cicatricial keratoconjunctivitis caused by trachoma or herpes. In addition, corneal abrasion, wearing corneal contact lenses, and eye bandaging during intraocular surgery can also cause this disease.

Clinical manifestations

1. Foreign body sensation or friction sensation in the affected eye.

2. Several epithelial cords can be seen on the surface of the cornea, with one end fixed and the other free.

3. Often accompanied by corneal epithelial erosion or superficial punctate keratitis. The diagnosis is based on the presence of epithelial filaments on the corneal surface visible under slit lamp.

Treatment principles

1. Remove the triggering factors.

2. Wipe off the corneal filaments under topical anesthesia.

3. Apply corneal lubricant and antibiotic eye ointment to the eyes. Principles of medication: In general cases, after surface anesthesia, remove corneal filaments, apply antibiotic eye ointment and Solcogel eye ointment to reduce irritation and prevent infection, and take oral vitamins to enhance nutrition.

For auxiliary examination, for general case examination items, select examination frame "a", and for repeated examinations, the examination items should include examination frames "a" and "b".

Efficacy evaluation

1. Cured: Corneal filaments disappear.

2. Improvement: Corneal curling is reduced.

3. Not healed: The number of corneal filaments increases, the irritation worsens or there is no improvement. Experts suggest that mild cases of corneal curling caused by filamentary keratopathy may disappear on their own within a few days, while severe cases should be treated in the hospital and should not be scraped or wiped off by yourself to avoid serious consequences such as corneal infection.
