Methods of correcting proptosis

Methods of correcting proptosis

Exophthalmos correction surgery is to help correct it through surgery, and the methods are different. Some achieve the effect by expanding the capacity of the eye socket, while others achieve the effect by reducing the contents of the salt frame. Therefore, the other party must have scientific knowledge and correct care after the operation.

1. Surgical method

1. Expand the capacity of the eye socket: destroy the bone fragments around the eye socket and let the fat tissue around the eyeball overflow into the hole, thus causing the eyeball to retract. This surgical method is suitable for cases with more severe exophthalmos.

2. Reducing the contents of the eye socket: This is mainly suitable for patients with less severe exophthalmos. The surgical method is to reduce the fat deep in the eye socket as much as possible while performing upper eyelid or lower eye bag plastic surgery, thereby increasing the space inside the eye socket to allow the eyeball to move freely, and the eyeball will naturally retract inward.

2. Postoperative Care

1. Before removing the stitches after surgery, be careful not to wet the wound when washing your face. Keep the wound clean and hygienic to prevent infection.

2. Within 24 hours after the operation, you can use ice packs for local cold compresses to prevent secondary bleeding of the wound and reduce edema. If bleeding does not stop, you should go to the hospital for follow-up consultation in time.

3. After the operation, you should rest in a quiet and comfortable environment with fresh air circulation to avoid lowering your head and aggravating the swelling of the wound. There will be some pain in the wound on the day of surgery, but it will gradually subside over time. Don't rush to take painkillers, as aspirin-like drugs will aggravate bleeding from the wound.

4. You should increase your protein intake in your diet and eat more fruits and fresh vegetables to promote wound healing.

5. Remove the stitches 5 to 7 days after the operation. One day after the stitches are removed, you can apply local hot compress to promote the rapid disappearance of edema.
