What is high LDL cholesterol and what are its dangers

Cholesterol includes high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Regardless of the type of cholesterol, when its content in the blood exceeds the normal range, it is generally considered to be a precursor to certain diseases. For example, high levels of LDL cholesterol may indicate the occurrence of cardiovascular disease.

Low-density lipoprotein is a bad cholesterol that causes fat to deposit on the blood vessel walls, forming atherosclerosis and causing damage to the blood vessel walls. It causes the platelets in the circulation to aggregate and coagulate, forming blood clots, causing blood vessel blockage and producing coronary artery disease such as angina pectoris and myocardial infarction. Therefore, the higher the low-density lipoprotein, the more harmful it is to the human body. Therefore, it is an indisputable fact that high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol can easily lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

The main dangers of high LDL cholesterol

The main dangers of high LDL cholesterol include:

1. If the LDL-C concentration in the blood increases, it will be deposited in the arterial walls of blood vessels in the heart, brain and other parts, gradually forming atherosclerotic plaques and blocking the corresponding blood vessels.

2. Serious diseases that cause death or disability, such as coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral arterial disease.

3. If the LDL-C level exceeds the normal range, it will increase the risk to the heart. Therefore, LDL-C is often called "bad" cholesterol. Lowering LDL-C levels indicates that the risk of coronary heart disease can be reduced.

Treatment of high LDL cholesterol

1. In daily diet, you should adhere to the dietary principle of "three lows and one high", that is, low fat, low sugar, low cholesterol and high fiber. Eat a light diet and eat more cereals, mushrooms, soy products, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

2. At the same time, you should have moderate physical exercise, which is very beneficial for improving the body's immunity and lowering blood lipids.

3. Deep sea fish oil also has an effect on blood lipids, but it is not obvious enough and can be used as an auxiliary treatment.

4. If there are no other underlying diseases, you can take simvastatin, whose main function is to lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. The initial dose can start from 10 mg/day, taken once every night. After 30-40 days, check the four blood lipid items. If they meet the standards, you can use the maintenance dose but do not stop the medication. Check liver and kidney function every three months. If they are normal, you can continue to take the medicine. If the transaminase continues to rise, you need to ask your doctor to change the medicine.
