Can asthma cause tuberculosis

Asthma and tuberculosis are actually two diseases, but there are many connections between them. For example, tuberculosis patients may develop bronchial asthma due to various reasons, so it has a great impact on the health of the patients, and they must pay attention to scientific treatment.

1. Endobronchial tuberculosis is a special type of tuberculosis. In recent years, the widespread use of fiberoptic bronchoscopes has significantly improved the accuracy of diagnosis. However, clinically, the symptoms of tuberculosis poisoning are not obvious in a very small number of patients. Bronchial tuberculosis causes endothelial thickening and lumen narrowing, and the symptoms and signs are easily confused with bronchial asthma. This causes asthma symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath as the main manifestations, making clinical diagnosis difficult.

2. Therefore, the patient is relatively rare in clinical practice. The mechanism of asthma is due to the proliferation of tuberculous granulation tissue and the formation of caseous necrosis, which leads to obstruction of tracheal or bronchial narrow flow and causes asthma, which can easily mislead clinicians in diagnosis. At the same time, if such patients are misdiagnosed as asthma, supraphysiological doses of glucocorticoids can suppress the patient's nonspecific immunity, providing conditions for the rapid growth, reproduction and spread of tuberculosis bacteria, resulting in the spread of pulmonary tuberculosis, atelectasis and other serious adverse consequences. Therefore, for asthma patients (with no history of bronchial asthma and other common causes have been excluded) who have not shown significant improvement after conventional treatments such as anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and anti-asthmatic drugs, the possibility of this disease should be considered, and fiberoptic bronchoscopy should be performed routinely to confirm the diagnosis.

3. Tuberculosis patients often suffer from bronchial asthma due to various reasons. Some people have compared and analyzed tuberculosis patients and healthy people, and found that the incidence of tuberculosis patients with asthma is 5 times higher than that of the normal group.

4. The possible causes are: (1) Mycobacterium tuberculosis directly damages the bronchi, and its metabolites can increase bronchial reactivity; (2) Tuberculosis can stimulate viral infection and induce asthma; (3) Anti-tuberculosis drugs cause allergic reactions, with a reported incidence of about 1.5%. The treatment of bronchial tuberculosis complicated with bronchial asthma is mainly based on anti-tuberculosis drugs. As the tuberculosis improves, the asthma-causing factors decrease, and the asthma symptoms are alleviated or cured.
