What should I do if my fixed dentures fall off

What should I do if my fixed dentures fall off

In our lives, we can't avoid some dental problems. When we lose teeth, we need to install dentures so as not to affect our self-image and better guarantee our eating ability. However, if we do not pay attention to the adjustment of diet after installing dentures, it may easily lead to damage to the dentures. Let's learn about what to do if the fixed dentures fall off.

What should I do if my fixed dentures fall off?

Go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and then receive treatment. Because fixed dentures are connected to the prepared abutment teeth or implants on both sides of the missing teeth by adhesives, bonding agents or fixing devices, thereby restoring the anatomical morphology and physiological characteristics of the missing teeth, and patients cannot take them off and put them on by themselves. If there are defects in the fixed denture, there may be problems such as the height and width of the facing contact point being inappropriate, or poor contact with the facing surface of the remaining teeth. There is a risk of food impaction, gingivitis or periodontal disease. It is recommended to go to a regular hospital for treatment as soon as possible.

The restoration process of fixed dentures

Prepare

1. According to the number of missing teeth. The abutment teeth and the number of abutment teeth are selected based on the position, relationship, morphology, tissue structure and periodontal supporting tissue conditions.

2. Check whether the tooth extraction wound in the edentulous area has healed, the size of the gap, the alveolar ridge and oral mucosa, etc.

3. The crown of the abutment tooth should be tall and the root should be long. If there is tooth or periodontal disease, it needs to be treated first. Pulpless teeth should undergo complete root canal treatment.

4. The occlusal relationship should be basically normal. If the abutment teeth are tilted, displaced, or the opposing teeth are elongated, twisted, or misplaced, it is necessary to adjust the grinding or change the design of the retainer.

method

1. Preparation of abutment teeth: With reference to tooth defect restoration, tooth preparation should be performed according to the type of retainer. It is required that the corresponding axial surfaces of all abutment teeth are parallel to each other, without undercuts or slightly to the sides or with the cutting ends converging 2o-5o, so as to obtain a common positioning path for each retainer. At the same time, attention should be paid to enhancing the retention force of the retainer.

2. Impression and molding: The impression must be accurate, complete and clear. For both cast fixed bridges and metal porcelain bridges, a double-layer silicone rubber impression method is used to take an impression of the entire dentition, which is then cast with hard plaster and then formed into a removable model with a mold pin.

3. Fixed bridge production: usually completed in the technician room.

4. Trial-fitting of fixed dentures: The initially polished retainers are tried on each abutment tooth respectively. The retainers are required to fit correctly and tightly with the neck of the abutment tooth, with appropriate edge extension, good adjacent relationship, coordinated occlusion, no tilting and good retention. If there are any problems, they can be polished and bonded after being dealt with accordingly. The metal porcelain bridge is tried on before glazing, and the shape is trimmed and the bite is adjusted before glazing and bonding.

5. Doctor's instructions: Instruct the patient to fast within 2 hours after bonding, and not to chew hard food within 24 hours without the bridge. Make an appointment for a follow-up examination if necessary.

The above is an introduction to what to do if fixed dentures fall out. After understanding it, we know that if fixed dentures fall out, we should go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time. In addition, even if dentures are installed in daily life, we must pay attention to maintaining good oral hygiene and not chew hard food.
