Can you still eat dried kelp if it's moldy

Kelp is a plant that grows in the sea. It has high nutritional value because it absorbs salt from the sea. However, some people buy moldy kelp due to their carelessness. So, can moldy kelp still be eaten? Many people don’t understand it very well and think that it’s edible as long as they wash it thoroughly. Is this really the case? Next, let us find out whether kelp can be eaten even if it is moldy?

There is a layer of white frost on the surface of dried kelp, which is a substance called mannitol formed by weathering of plant alkali. It is not only harmless, but also has the effect of detoxifying and reducing swelling. Don't mistake the white frost as salt precipitation or mold or deterioration. When using dried kelp, rinse the surface of the kelp, then steam it in a steamer for 30 minutes, and then soak it in clean water overnight before using it for cooking so that it will have a crisp taste. Do not soak the kelp directly, otherwise it will feel hard no matter it is stewed, fried or mixed. There is a layer of mucus on the surface of kelp, so it does not need to be cleaned excessively, otherwise a lot of nutrients will be lost.

Just wash it off, it might be salt! Generally, kelp rarely gets moldy. It comes from the sea! And the processing factory adds a lot of salt during processing!

Kelp is the food with the highest iodine content and also contains a valuable nutritional medicine - mannitol. The iodine and mannitol in kelp are mostly attached to its surface, especially mannitol, which is in the form of white powder attached to the surface of kelp. Therefore, the amount of white powder attached is the primary condition for determining the quality of kelp. This is one of the methods of identification.

Secondly, the leaves of kelp should be thick, long and wide.

Third, the color of kelp should be slightly yellowish purple and almost transparent.

Fourth, after processing and bundling, the kelp is qualified only if it is free of impurities, neat and clean, and free of mold.

1. Kelp will become moldy if it is not stored properly or for too long. Although the mold can be removed by washing, the kelp itself should have deteriorated, and eating it will definitely have adverse effects on the body.

2. Kelp, one of the seaweed plants, is a large marine brown algae plant that grows in low-temperature seawater. It belongs to the family Bupleuri of the Phaeophyceae and is a plant of the family Zosteraceae. It is named because it grows in seawater and is flexible like a ribbon. Kelp is a vegetable with high nutritional value and also has certain medicinal value. There are many ways to cook kelp, such as kelp stewed with pork ribs, kelp braised pork, kelp with shredded pork, kelp soup, and cold kelp salad.

Can you eat moldy kelp? From the above analysis of this issue, we can see that although the nutritional value of moldy kelp is not as high as that of fresh kelp, it is still edible if it is carefully washed. The current living standards are relatively high, so it is better for us to eat some non-moldy and fresh kelp.
