Can dentures be repaired?

Can dentures be repaired?

There are many types of dentures, including fixed, removable and dental implants. If a denture is accidentally damaged, you should pay attention to what type of denture you chose and also see where the joint is broken. When wearing dentures, they may occasionally be damaged due to carelessness or other reasons. So, can dentures be repaired after they are damaged? This depends on the cause and extent of the damage. Let’s learn more about it below.

If the breakage of a removable denture is caused by external force, and the cross-section is intact and tightly aligned, and the base of the denture fits closely to the alveolar ridge without any gap, it can be repaired and continued to be used.

If the removable denture breaks due to the absorption of the alveolar bone, which creates a gap between the base and the gums; or because the denture is improperly arranged, resulting in uneven force on the denture when chewing, causing the base to break, it should not be repaired, but a new denture should be made. This is because even if it is repaired, it will break again for the same reason in the future, and wearing such a denture will accelerate the absorption of the alveolar bone. If the damage is caused by aging and deterioration of the plastic, it should not be repaired either.

If a fixed denture is broken, it generally cannot be repaired and should be removed and remade. If only the porcelain or rubber surface of the denture is peeling off or cracked, it can be repaired directly in the mouth.

The above is about whether dentures can be repaired. It is recommended that you redo them. Whether it is a removable denture or a porcelain tooth, it is difficult to repair it if it is broken, and the effect of the repair is not good. The discomfort when wearing it is obvious, which affects the quality of life. In daily life, you should pay attention to keeping dentures clean, prevent bacteria from entering the dentures, and avoid biting sticky or hard foods. I wish you good health soon.
