What does a positive EB virus antibody mean?

Viruses are more harmful than bacteria. Bacteria can be good or bad. Some bacteria are good for the body, but things like viruses are only harmful and have no benefits. So in this world full of viruses, we must learn to protect ourselves and not let ourselves be harmed by viruses. Let's take a look at the meaning of positive EB virus antibodies.

Epstein-barr virus (EBv), also known as human herpes virus type 4

herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4). In the clinic of sexually transmitted diseases, Epstein and Barr first successfully established a strain of Burkitt's African childhood lymphoma cells through in vitro suspension culture in 1964, and observed herpes virus particles in the cell smear under an electron microscope, hence the name.

Detection of EBv-specific antibodies

EBvIgG antibodies in serum were detected by immunoenzyme staining or immunofluorescence technology, and the diagnosis was recent EBv infection. About 90% of vca-lgG antibodies can be detected in the serum of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and the condition improves; the antibody titer does not decrease, so it is valuable for the diagnosis and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In particular, Chinese scholars conducted a large-scale population survey and found that an increase in anti-ea-lgA titer greatly increases the risk of nasopharyngeal cancer, providing an important means for the early diagnosis of this cancer.

Heterophile antibody agglutination test

It is mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis. IgM antibodies may appear in the serum of patients in the early stage of the disease, which can agglutinate sheep red blood cells. Antibody titers exceeding 1:100 are of diagnostic significance, but only 60-80% of cases are positive. A small number of normal people and serum sickness patients also contain this antibody. However, the antibodies of normal people and serum sickness patients can become negative after guinea pig kidney tissue cell absorption test.

Two vaccines have been launched, one of which is a smallpox vaccine constructed by China using genetic engineering methods that simultaneously expresses EBvgp320 and HBsAg. It is mainly used in areas with a high incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The other is a purified viral gp320 membrane protein vaccine, which is being administered on a small scale to university students in the UK to see if the vaccine can reduce the incidence of infectious mononucleosis.

A positive EB virus antibody test may mean that you have been invaded by this type of virus, which may cause symptoms caused by this type of virus. However, a specific conclusion can only be drawn based on a comprehensive analysis of the above test results. Patients are advised to face the disease actively, cooperate with the doctor's treatment, and maintain an optimistic attitude.
