Why do you snore when you sleep

People all have their own living habits and some minor ailments, such as snoring. Many people, especially those living in dormitories, have caused public outrage because their snoring affects the rest of people around them. In a family, snoring can affect the sleep of both partners. People who snore are not aware of this problem, so someone needs to remind them to take some measures to avoid snoring. So why do people snore when they sleep?

Snoring occurs regardless of age and there are many reasons for snoring. It is very convenient to find the cause and treat it. Don’t think that the harm of snoring is just affecting other people’s rest. What’s more serious is that it will harm your own body.

The following is an introduction to why people snore when they sleep.

1. First, rule out the causes of respiratory tract stenosis or lesions. If you have these symptoms: nasal obstruction (such as deviated nasal septum, enlarged turbinate, nasal polyps, nasal tumors, severe sinusitis, etc.), grade II or above tonsil hypertrophy, root of tongue or pharyngeal tumor, pharyngeal mucosal hypertrophy, tongue hypertrophy, mandibular retraction, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, micrognathia, adenoid hypertrophy, abnormal pharyngeal narrowing, etc., it is recommended that you go to the hospital for surgery or drug treatment! Because they are diseases that affect your health and need treatment. Among them, snoring in children and adolescents is mostly caused by enlarged adenoids. Adenoids are organs only found in children and are useless in adults. For ordinary people, their adenoids will shrink and disappear when they reach their teens, but some people's adenoids do not shrink and they can just go to the hospital to have their adenoids removed.

2. The rate of people snoring while sleeping is very high, but most people do not have the above symptoms. If you do not have these symptoms but still snore, and if you meet these conditions: being overweight, lacking exercise, smoking and drinking, drinking strong tea and coffee, taking sedatives, eating spicy food, staying up late, and being overly tired, then please correct it immediately! Obesity will make the pharyngeal cavity narrower, so you need to persist in exercising to lose weight. Snoring is caused by the vibration of the upper respiratory tract during sleep. There are two structures most commonly associated with snoring, the soft palate (also known as the soft plate) and the root of the tongue. Tobacco, alcohol, strong tea, coffee and sedatives will make the pharynx and nasal cavity more relaxed. During sleep, the airflow impacts the soft palate or nasal cavity, creating a whistle-like effect and causing snoring. Spicy food and staying up late can cause getting inflamed, causing the soft palate to become congested and swollen downward, while the root of the tongue to become congested and swollen upward, causing the airway to narrow or block, and the airflow to impact the soft palate to produce sound.

3. The principle of snoring is that the airflow causes the pharyngeal muscles to vibrate and make sounds. The fundamental reason why most people snore when they sleep is that the muscles in the pharynx (including the soft palate and uvula, root of the tongue, and the back of the nasal cavity) are relaxed. Everyone's genetic genes are different, and quite a lot of people (it can be said that the majority of the population) are born with relaxed pharyngeal muscles. When you are in deep sleep, your nerves are completely relaxed and the muscles in your pharynx are even more relaxed, causing the gas passing through the respiratory tract to hit the soft palate or the root of the tongue, causing it to vibrate and produce snoring.

The above introduces why you snore when you sleep. I hope that through this introduction, you can find the reason for your snoring and avoid some adverse factors in time. This can effectively reduce the frequency of snoring. If your own treatment does not achieve the desired effect, it is best to go for a comprehensive examination. Snoring is sometimes a precursor to some serious illness. Be sure to pay attention to timely treatment and do not delay the disease.
