How to wash a leather jacket

1. Cleaning:

The cleaning method is to use a clean cotton cloth or cotton ball dipped in detergent to directly scrub the dirt on the leather surface. Commonly used cleaning agents are:

(1) A mixture of ammonia, alcohol and water.

(2) Some weak alkaline cleaning agents.

Some special leather cleaners. For some leather clothes that are not too dirty, you can use cleaning materials such as (1) and (2), which are both cheap and easy to obtain. For some dirty clothes or light-colored leather clothes, it is best to choose some special leather cleaners for better results.

2. Coloring:

After the leather jacket is cleaned, the glossy leather jacket usually needs to be colored, which is professionally called "coating". It is a method of using pigments, resins and other leather-specific chemicals to make a coating slurry and apply it to the leather surface by brushing, wiping, spraying, etc. Before painting, mix the prepared color paste and resin in a certain proportion (usually the ratio of pigment to resin is 1:2-2.5) and then color it. The method is: dip the coating slurry with a brush or sponge and brush it directly on the leather surface. Brushing helps the slurry to fully penetrate and absorb into pores, corners and joints.

For leather jackets with good color, appropriate color fixing treatment should be carried out to prevent fading. After coloring, if the main part of the back of the leather jacket is wrinkled or uneven, it is best to use an iron to iron it to make it smoother and more beautiful. When ironing, it is best to place a piece of silk cloth on the leather surface. The ironing temperature should be controlled in the range of 80-100℃. The ironing time for each place should not be too long to prevent certain pigments in the coating from "migrating" and causing color spots. Light-colored leather jackets should be especially careful.
