Under what circumstances should an MRI be performed

Most people are familiar with magnetic resonance imaging. We all know that magnetic resonance imaging is a very common examination method. In daily life, many diseases can be examined through magnetic resonance imaging. However, not all people are suitable for magnetic resonance imaging. Some people are not suitable. However, it is best to be accompanied by family members for magnetic resonance imaging and then go to a professional hospital for examination.

When should an MRI be performed?

Magnetic resonance imaging is one of the medical images with higher imaging resolution and clearer definition. Is it necessary to do it only when it is absolutely necessary? Of course, this depends on people's health awareness and financial ability.

MRI is one of the ways to check health. Experts will request MRI for better examination. However, the MRI done at this time is to cure the disease, not an examination for health purposes.

The human body contains a lot of water. The water content in different tissues is also different. If the distribution information of this water can be detected, a relatively complete image of the internal structure of the human body can be drawn. Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging technology is a technology that infers the distribution of water molecules in the human body by identifying the distribution of hydrogen atom signals in water molecules, and then detects the internal structure of the human body.

Magnetic resonance imaging has no radiation effect on the human body. Compared with ultrasound detection technology, MRI imaging is clearer and can show more details. In addition, compared with other imaging technologies, MRI imaging can not only show tangible physical lesions, but also accurately judge the functional reactions of the brain, heart, liver, etc.

Clinical Application of Magnetic Resonance

Brain diseases: MRI can clearly distinguish between gray matter and white matter in the brain and is superior to CT for demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. The diagnosis of cerebral hemorrhage, brain trauma, cerebral infarction and brain tumors is similar to CT, but CT can show an isodense subdural hematoma. MRI may show early lesions of cerebral infarction or brain tumors that CT cannot show, and can be used as the preferred examination method for brainstem and cerebellar lesions.

Spinal diseases: MRI can clearly show the spinal cord, dural sac and epidural fat without the need for contrast agents. It has high diagnostic value for tumors, syringomyelia, demyelinating lesions, and herniated discs.

Chest diseases: MRI has advantages in examining the mediastinum. It can distinguish mediastinal blood vessels and masses without contrast agents. Magnetic resonance imaging can display the inner cavities of the heart and large blood vessels, which can identify abnormal tissues and facilitate functional assessment.

Abdominal diseases: Magnetic resonance imaging is mainly used for examination of solid organs such as the liver, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys. It is especially suitable for the early diagnosis and staging of malignant tumors in the liver, kidneys, and other parts of the body.

Pelvic diseases: MRI has advantages in the examination of the rectum and urogenital system, especially for the early diagnosis and staging of malignant tumors such as bladder, prostate, ovary and uterus.

Bone and joint diseases: MRI can clearly show bone and joint lesions (including tumors, inflammation and metabolic diseases), especially in the early stages of acute osteomyelitis. It is also the preferred method for diagnosing meniscus lesions of the knee.
