What causes skin cancer

The occurrence of skin cancer is closely related to excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays, while genetic factors and other environmental influences may also be involved. Regularly checking skin conditions and seeking medical attention in a timely manner if any abnormalities are suspected are the keys to prevention and early detection.

Simply put, skin cancer is the result of abnormal growth of skin cells. The most common cause is excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays in sunlight, which directly damages the DNA of skin cells. Long-term accumulation may lead to abnormal cell proliferation. In addition to ultraviolet exposure, genetic factors, low immunity, contact with certain chemicals, and repeated skin trauma may all be contributing factors.

Skin cancer is generally classified into basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common and relatively the least dangerous type, while malignant melanoma is more malignant, spreads quickly and has a high mortality rate. Skin cancer usually manifests as non-healing ulcers, asymmetrical pigmented patches or moles with abnormal shapes and colors on the skin.

To reduce the risk of disease, it is recommended to avoid strong sunlight at noon, wear a hat and sun-protective clothing when going out, and use appropriate sunscreen products. Pay attention to changes in the skin regularly. If you find irregular moles, abnormally growing patches, or long-term wounds that do not heal, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Early detection before surgery often leads to a higher cure rate.
