What are the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and how to treat it

What are the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma? How to treat it?

1. The incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in men is much higher than that in women. Genetic factors are relatively common in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. The occurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is obviously regional, and viral infection is also one of the factors causing the disease. A variety of chemical carcinogens can change the sensitivity of the mucosa to carcinogens.

2. The early symptoms are mainly headaches, which are mostly on one side and intermittent. Symptoms such as nasal congestion, ear closure, tinnitus, numbness of the nasal cavity, diplopia, and sagging of the upper nasal cavity may also occur. It often occurs in the pharyngeal recess and the anterior wall of the nasopharynx.

3. The primary cancer breaks through the surface mucosa and bloody mucus appears. After getting up in the morning, the nasal secretions often contain blood or blood clots when inhaling. This is also one of the early symptoms. During the examination, the neck lumps are mostly hard, with small nodules on the surface. They are difficult to move because of the adhesions around them. Sometimes they fuse together to form a huge mass on the entire neck side.

4. For the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, surgical treatment can be used. Due to the characteristics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, surgery cannot be used as the first choice of treatment. However, when recurrence occurs after radiotherapy, surgery is still beneficial as a salvage treatment measure. Radiotherapy is also a good treatment method. Since most of the pathological examinations are poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas, radiotherapy is also a good choice. Conventional radiotherapy has many complications, and three-dimensional conformal or intensity-modulated radiotherapy is recommended. The total irradiation dose to the nasopharynx is 66-70Gy/6.5-7 weeks, the radical dose for those with positive cervical lymph nodes is 56-60Gy, and the preventive irradiation dose for those with negative cervical lymph nodes is 46-50Gy.
