Can patients with nasopharyngeal cancer eat fish? What are the treatments?

1. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors in China, and is more common in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Jiangxi and other provinces. The incidence rate in men is 2 to 3 times that in women.

2. Patients with nasopharyngeal cancer need to adjust their diet and have a balanced diet. Generally speaking, patients with nasopharyngeal cancer can eat fish. Eat more vegetables and fruits. But eat less or no salted fish, pickles, smoked meat, bacon, etc., and avoid drinking alcohol.

3. Frequent consumption of salted fish can cause nasopharyngeal cancer. Patients with nasopharyngeal cancer should try to eat less salted fish. After years of hard work, scientists have found that rotten salted fish contains carcinogens, nitrosamines, which are produced during the process of salting and drying. If you often eat this rotten salted fish, you are likely to develop nasopharyngeal cancer and other cancers. For example, nasopharyngeal cancer patients are more common among people aged 15 to 40 in southern China, among which salted fish is closely related to nasopharyngeal cancer.

4. Radiotherapy is a common treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Conventional radiotherapy has many complications. Three-dimensional conformal or enhanced radiotherapy is recommended. The total irradiation dose for the nasopharynx is 66~70Gy/6.5~7 weeks, the radical dose for positive cervical lymph nodes is 56~60Gy, and the preventive irradiation dose for negative cervical lymph nodes is 46~50Gy. During radiotherapy, chemotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, and immunotherapy can be combined to improve the efficacy. Comprehensive treatment methods such as chemotherapy and surgery can be used for some advanced patients and recurrent cases after radiotherapy, as well as a small number of adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas that are insensitive to radiation.
