Driving without sunscreen can cause skin cancer. How to protect yourself from the sun and prevent skin cancer in summer

Does having a film on your car windows mean you don’t need to worry about UV rays when driving? According to the British Daily Mail, doctors recommend that you should apply sunscreen even when you roll up your car windows, because the destructive rays in sunlight can penetrate the car window glass and harm the human body.

Car windows block UVB rays, which cause sunburn, but more damaging UVA rays can penetrate the glass. UVA rays can penetrate deep into the skin and cause skin aging, eye damage and skin cancer.

The researchers asked 225 men and women about their driving habits, including how often they drove with the windows down and how often they applied sunscreen. Many of the respondents had skin cancer in the past, and two-thirds of them thought they didn't need to use sunscreen if they rolled up their windows.

Driving without sunscreen can cause skin cancer, but improper sunscreen application can also cause skin cancer

According to the latest US research, sunscreens commonly added to sunscreen to reduce skin cancer actually increase the risk of skin cancer in users.

According to an investigation report published in the National Drug Record by Leslie Dennis, a professor at the University of Iowa, after investigating whether there is a relationship between sunscreen and malignant melanoma, investigators found that the use of sunscreen not only cannot prevent skin cancer, but will increase the risk of skin cancer.

Previously, most American health experts believed that sunscreens can effectively prevent direct sunlight from shining on the skin and can effectively reduce the possibility of skin cancer. The release of Dennis' latest survey report has made people begin to doubt whether to continue using sunscreen.

The report also said that because some previous surveys did not take into account people who are susceptible to skin cancer - those with fair skin and freckles - who are more likely to use sunscreen regularly, the survey results show that people who use sunscreen regularly are more likely to get skin cancer.

So, how to protect yourself from the sun and skin cancer in summer?

⑴ Choose sunscreen with different SpF values according to the occasion. The sunscreen you choose should not only protect against medium-wave ultraviolet UVB (which can cause sunburn and sunburn), but also protect against long-wave ultraviolet UVA (which can cause skin aging and wrinkles).

⑵ UV rays can damage the skin even in winter, indoors, and on cloudy days. On cloudy days or in the shade, the intensity of UV rays is only reduced by about 30%. Therefore, sunscreen should be used all year round, rain or shine.

⑶Sunscreen takes a certain amount of time to be absorbed and take effect, so it should be applied 20-30 minutes before going out.

⑷SpF values cannot be accumulated and cannot be used before applying makeup. When reapplying sunscreen, you need to remove makeup before applying it.

⑸ Sunscreen needs to be applied at a certain thickness to be effective. If it is too thin, it will not achieve the desired effect, and if it is too thick, it will cause a burden on the skin. The general application amount is 2 mg per square centimeter. A pair of arms should be applied 2-2.5 grams at a time, and the face should be applied 1-1.5 grams at a time.

Of course, in addition to sun protection, you can also prevent skin cancer by:

First, avoid long-term contact with harmful chemicals. In daily life and work, try to avoid long-term contact with harmful chemicals such as asphalt, tar, arsenic, benzopyrene, etc. These chemicals are highly carcinogenic.

Workers who have to be exposed to harmful chemicals for a long time due to work needs should have good labor protection. At the same time, we should also consciously protect our living environment and not burn tires, asphalt, plastics, wire skins and other materials at will.

The second point is to pay attention to ionizing radiation, which is mainly for radiation workers. Also, those who suffer from precancerous lesions such as actinic keratosis and xeroderma pigmentosum should receive treatment as soon as possible to nip skin cancer in the bud. Strengthen physical exercise and improve physical fitness, as Chinese medicine says: When the righteousness is inside, evil cannot interfere.
