The difference between melanoma and nevus

Melanoma and melanocytic nevus are two completely different lesions. Melanocytic nevus is a benign lesion, while melanoma is a malignant tumor.

Melanoma usually refers to malignant melanoma, which is a highly malignant tumor derived from melanocytes. Malignant melanoma can evolve from congenital or acquired benign melanocytic nevi, or from the malignant transformation of dysplastic nevi. It can also be newly developed or evolved from ordinary pigmented nevi. Generally, it is mostly transformed from junctional nevi. From the clinical manifestation point of view, the pigment cells of melanoma are often uneven, and the local manifestations are unclear boundaries, uneven pigmentation, and sometimes ulceration, bleeding and other abnormal manifestations. However, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish melanoma from ordinary nevi with the naked eye.

When an ordinary mole undergoes some obvious changes in a short period of time, such as sudden enlargement, darkening or lightening of color, ulceration, bleeding, itching, pain and other abnormal symptoms, you should be alert to the possibility of developing into melanoma. In this case, it is recommended to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible, do a pathological biopsy, and make a clear diagnosis. If melanoma is diagnosed early and treated early, the prognosis can be greatly improved.
