Why are middle-aged men more susceptible to liver cancer? Reasons why men are more susceptible to liver cancer and how to prevent it

March 18 is China Liver Care Day. According to data released by the Cancer Hospital, among the more than 1,000 liver cancer patients who received surgery in the hospital in the past five years, about 50% were men aged 40 to 50.

According to experts, the liver is the most sensitive and fragile organ in the human body. Fatigue, alcoholism, and high blood sugar levels can damage the liver, leading to chronic liver damage, hepatitis, and eventually liver cancer. In addition, work stress and excessive mental pressure can easily lead to low immunity and promote the growth of cancer cells.

Experts say that liver cancer is one of the easiest cancers to diagnose, and early examinations can detect asymptomatic liver cancer. However, among the more than 1,000 liver cancer patients treated in the hospital, less than 15% were detected in the early stages. By the time symptoms such as pain in the liver area, loss of appetite, fatigue, and weight loss appear, the disease is usually in the late stage.

Experts recommend that people should have regular physical examinations every year after the age of 40. In particular, people with a history of hepatitis for more than five years, positive hepatitis B virus antigen markers, clinical manifestations of chronic liver disease, confirmed cirrhosis, and a history of alcoholism for more than five years or a history of diabetes for many years should undergo liver B-ultrasound and alpha-fetoprotein tests every three to six months.

In view of the close relationship between the occurrence of liver cancer and infectious diseases such as hepatitis B and hepatitis C, experts remind patients with liver disease to actively treat liver disease; avoid using drugs that damage the liver; reduce the exposure of the liver to radioactive substances such as X-rays; avoid and treat various infections as soon as possible; avoid various traumas and surgeries; and avoid drinking. At the same time, establish good living habits, carry out appropriate physical and mental exercises, maintain an optimistic mood, and eat more foods rich in vitamins and proteins to improve the body's immunity and prevent the occurrence of cirrhosis and liver cancer.
