What is the normal length of the uterine tube?

In the female reproductive system, the cervix is one of the most important organs. Women will suffer from many gynecological diseases, most of which are related to the cervix, such as cervicitis, cervical cancer and other diseases. These diseases are very harmful. In addition, the length of the cervical canal is different for each woman. A cervical canal that is too short will affect pregnancy and childbirth. So what is the normal length of the cervical canal?

What is the normal length of the uterine tube?

Cervical length: It is a convenient way to prevent premature birth. Obstetricians usually use B-ultrasound to understand the length of a pregnant woman's cervix within 22-24 weeks. If the cervix is longer than 30 mm, premature birth will generally not occur and it is considered normal. However, if it is shorter than this value, especially shorter than 25 mm, it indicates a higher possibility of premature birth.

Under normal circumstances, the length of the cervix should be more than 3 cm. If it is shorter, it is more likely to cause miscarriage in the second trimester of pregnancy. The cervix is located in the lower part of the uterus. It is approximately cone-shaped, 2.5 to 3 cm long, with the upper end connected to the uterine body and the lower end extending deep into the vagina. The external cervical opening is round in nulliparous women and transversely fissured in women who have given birth through vaginal delivery.

Measurement of cervical length can indeed assess the risk of premature birth. During pregnancy, the shorter the mother's cervix, the higher the risk of premature birth.

How long should the cervical canal normally be?

Generally speaking, around three months of pregnancy, the length of the cervical canal of most pregnant women is between 38 and 40 mm.

By around 22 to 24 weeks of pregnancy, the length of the cervical canal of most expectant mothers can reach 38 mm.

If the length of the cervical canal is shorter than 25 mm, you should be alert to premature birth.

What should I do if my cervix is short?

The causes of cervical shortening are different, and the treatment methods are also different. Therefore, once the cervical canal is found to be shortened, the expectant mother should seek treatment under the guidance of a doctor based on her own situation.

If the shortening of the cervical canal is caused by cervical insufficiency in the expectant mother, surgical treatment is generally required. However, if the expectant mother's physical condition does not allow surgery, she will need to take certain additional medications to reduce the incidence of premature birth.

If the pregnant mother only has a simple shortening of the cervical canal, it is mostly related to short-term activities and can usually be relieved after rest. Therefore, in this case, expectant mothers only need to reduce their activities appropriately to safely go through the entire pregnancy.

What expectant mothers also need to know is that if the cervical canal shortens, there is no need to stay in bed absolutely to rest, that is, they do not need to lie in bed motionless to protect the fetus. Because this does not reduce the chance of premature birth, but may also bring some more terrible complications, such as venous thrombosis.
