Is primary liver cancer contagious? Three principles for symptomatic care of primary liver cancer

Is primary liver cancer contagious? Primary liver cancer is the most common type of liver cancer, and the incidence rate is very high. When it comes to liver problems, many people have such a question: Is primary liver cancer contagious? Let's take a look at it together.

First, let’s understand what infection is.

Infection refers to the invasion of pathogens from diseased organisms into other organisms. Through language and actions, they cause others to have the same thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Humans and higher animals are harmed by various pathogenic microorganisms. When these pathogenic microorganisms invade the body, under certain conditions, they will overcome the collective defense function, destroy the relative stability of the collective internal environment, grow and multiply in certain parts, and cause different degrees of pathological processes. This process is called infection.

Is primary liver cancer contagious?

In fact, cancer patients themselves are not the source of infection. Cancerous tissues taken from cancer patients cannot survive and grow when directly implanted in mice. Although it is now believed that the onset of certain cancers is related to certain viruses, such as cervical cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, and leukemia, it has not yet been confirmed that infection with certain viruses will definitely lead to certain cancers.

So far, we can say for sure that cancer is not contagious. Infection requires three conditions: a source of infection, a transmission route, and a susceptible population. Clinical data prove that cancer patients themselves are not a source of infection, so primary liver cancer or other cancers are not contagious.

However, one thing is worth noting. Some liver cancer patients are considered to be contagious because they have viral hepatitis and a history of triple positive. However, the main route of transmission of triple positive is blood, and the chances of transmission through the respiratory tract, saliva, and sweat glands are very low. When eating, you can use separate tableware from the patients; daily life and contact will not cause infection.

Primary liver cancer care

Depending on the condition, it is advisable to rest in bed appropriately to avoid increasing the liver load. Ensure protein intake, appropriate amount of fat, and high vitamins. For patients with ascites, salt intake should be 3-5g per day; for those with premonitory signs of hepatic coma and hepatic coma, protein intake should be temporarily stopped and sugar should be the main food.

Symptomatic nursing care for primary liver cancer

1. If the abdomen is distended and accompanied by ascites, the patient should adopt a semi-recumbent position, keep the bed flat, and turn over regularly to prevent bedsores.

2. For patients with pain, appropriate amounts of sedatives or analgesics can be given according to the degree of pain, and psychological counseling can be provided.

3. Provide emotional comfort to the patient and family members, explain that the condition may change suddenly, and inform the patient and family members in advance of the contact method in case of a sudden change in the condition.
