Reflux gastritis cough

Reflux gastritis cough

There are many reasons for vomiting. Medically speaking, this is a phenomenon of gastric reflux. If not treated in time, it will lead to various complications. Coughing is one of the more common symptoms of reflux gastritis. When reflux occurs, gastric acid will also rise along the esophagus, so it will irritate the throat and cause coughing. At this time, patients must pay attention to a balanced diet, mainly light vegetarian food, and must not smoke or drink, and focus on taking care of their stomach.

1. Internal medicine treatment of gastric acid reflux cough

The goals of medical treatment are to relieve reflux and reduce the irritation and erosion of gastric secretions. Generally, asymptomatic sliding hernias do not require treatment. Medical treatment can be performed for patients with mild symptoms of reflux esophagitis or due to age, comorbidities, or unwillingness to undergo surgery. For obese patients, weight loss can reduce intra-abdominal pressure and reflux. Avoid lifting heavy objects, bending over, etc., and do not wear tight clothes. Raising the head of the bed by 15 cm when sleeping, not eating 6 hours before going to bed, and avoiding smoking and drinking can all reduce the onset of esophageal reflux.

2. How to prevent acid reflux

2.1. Antacids can neutralize gastric acid, thereby reducing the activity of pepsin and reducing the damage of acidic gastric contents to the esophageal mucosa. Alkaline drugs themselves also have the effect of increasing LES tension. Take two tablets of aluminum carbonate magnesium, 3 to 4 times a day. Alginic acid foam (gariscon, alginate) contains alginic acid, sodium alginate and antacids, which can float on the surface of gastric contents and prevent reflux of gastric contents.

2.2. Proton pump inhibitors: This type of drug can block the H+-K+-ATPase of parietal cells. Drugs such as omeprazole and lansoprazole have been widely used in clinical practice. The former 20 mg/d and the latter 30 mg/d can improve the symptoms.

3. Solutions to breathing difficulties caused by gastroesophageal reflux

3.1. Avoid high mental stress, irregular diet, overeating, eating sour, spicy, sweet, and indigestible foods, strong tea, coffee, chocolate, etc., avoid smoking, drinking, eating high-fat foods, and taking calcium channel blockers frequently. Obese people should lose weight, eat small meals frequently, 4-6 meals a day, and raise the head of the bed 15-20 cm when sleeping to reduce reflux. Strengthening abdominal muscle exercises on a regular basis can help prevent the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux. When patients become ill, it is best to go to the hospital for treatment and not to use medication blindly.

3.2. Certain foods or drugs can reduce the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter and cause gastroesophageal reflux. Common foods, food ingredients and stimulants include: high-fat meals, chocolate, alcohol, mints, caffeine, nicotine, etc. Common drugs include: anticholine drugs or drugs with anticholine side effects, hepatic adrenergic receptor agonists (isoproterenol, benzodiazepines, calcium antagonists (verapamil, nitropropionate, diltiazem, and opioids).
