Will having an ovarian tumor affect life expectancy?

Ovarian tumor is a common gynecological malignant tumor, but all patients and their families want to know the answer to the question of whether the mortality rate of ovarian tumor is high. The mortality rate of ovarian tumor has always been daunting. For this reason, a set of clinical data is used to explain to everyone whether having ovarian tumor will affect life expectancy.

For a long time, many people are not very clear about the mortality rate of ovarian tumors, but clinical statistics show that the incidence of ovarian tumors ranks third among gynecological malignant tumors, while the mortality rate ranks first.

A statistical result of the American Cancer Society in 2004 showed that in 2004 alone, there were 25,550 newly diagnosed cases of ovarian cancer and 16,090 deaths from the disease. These figures reflect how high the mortality rate of ovarian cancer is. Needless to say, everyone can be shocked.

The high mortality rate of ovarian tumors also troubles experts. Although great progress has been made in the understanding and treatment of ovarian tumors in the past 30 years, the overall 5-year survival rate of ovarian tumor patients still hovers around 30%. A research survey also showed that the mortality rate of ovarian tumors in elderly patients is generally higher than that in middle-aged and elderly patients.

The study found that the older the age, the higher the mortality rate of ovarian tumors. The relative risk of death in elderly patients over 70 years old was 1.3 times higher than that in middle-aged patients. The relative risk of death in ovarian tumor patients aged 60 and above, including 60 years old, was 2.341 times that of patients under 60 years old.

The risk of death from ovarian cancer increases with age

From these groups of data, it is not difficult to see the answer to the question of whether having ovarian tumors will affect life expectancy. It has to be said that the mortality rate of ovarian tumors is very high. Therefore, the treatment of the disease must be started as early as possible, otherwise the 5-year survival rate is often very low.
