What kind of examinations are generally needed for rectal cancer

Rectal cancer is a digestive tract disease. The incidence of this disease in my country is very high, and many patients suffer from the disease. Therefore, we must pay attention to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. To treat rectal cancer, diagnosis is the first step, and professional diagnostic methods can confirm the disease.
Rectal examination. Rectal examination is a necessary step in diagnosing rectal cancer. Most patients with rectal cancer can be found through rectal examination. Doctors can feel a hard, uneven mass. In the late stage, a narrow mass in the intestinal cavity can be felt. The fixed finger cuff can see dirty pus and blood containing feces.
Pathological examination. This is the main basis for the diagnosis of rectal cancer. Rectal cancer surgery often involves diversion issues, which affects the patient's quality of life. In order to avoid misdiagnosis and mistreatment, treatment must be guided by pathological examination results before or during surgery, and the anus should never be removed lightly.
Carcinoembryonic antigen measurement. It is generally believed that carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is of great value in evaluating the treatment effect and prognosis of rectal cancer. Continuous measurement of serum CEA can be used to observe the effect of surgery or chemotherapy. If CEA decreases significantly after surgery or chemotherapy, it means that the treatment effect is good. If the surgery does not reverse it, serum CEA often remains at a high level. After surgery, CEA drops to normal but then increases again, which often indicates tumor recurrence.

Ultrasound examination. Patients with rectal tumors can undergo further intrarectal ultrasound examination, which is a non-invasive examination developed in recent years. Its advantage is that it can determine the depth and range of rectal cancer invasion, and it also has a certain value in determining whether there is lymph node metastasis. Liver ultrasound is particularly important to prevent missed diagnosis of rectal cancer liver metastasis.
